I decide to take the risk of resting in the forest since I was too tired to swim. I climbed a tree,  covering my body with as many leaves as I could fine. The branches pushed into my back and my legs as I rested in the fetal position.

I woke up the next morning with a snake draped across my body. I stayed as still as I could. I looked around thinking of a way to escape the clutches of the snake.  I noticed that my legs were resting on a branch that was bending down as if it was about to break. I gently pushed down on the branch trying to break it. The snake moved with the movement at my legs. I stopped pushing and stayed still. I   waited for the snake to settle down again and then I continued trying to push down on the branch. I felt the branch moving slowly backward. I kept pushing until finally there was a snapping sound and the branch fell making me fall forward. The snake fell off me and onto the forest floor where it slithered off into a hole in the ground. I pulled myself back onto the tree and I stood up looking around. I jumped down and ran for the lake and began swimming.

I had decided that every moment I wasted thinking about what to do, my brother slowly drifted closer to death. I swam as fast as I could remembering how I had played in the pond near my village. It felt like thousands of years back. I swam relentlessly across the lake, my mind finally comprehending what I had done. After the monsters I had seen, I did not trust this lake. I swam as fast as I could.
