Confusion Unlimited

Kunj was a simpleton. What many call middle class mentality was evident in every act of his. He was the only son of a couple who had a very down to earth life style and values. His father was a clerk in a a LIC office and mother was a house wife. Kunj was brought up in a very lively yet humble life style. His parents were always trying to imbibe high values with simple living in Kunj since he was a young kid. Needless to say Kunj was very much aware about his responsibilities towards his parents. His father would be retired in a couple of years or so and he needed to get a good job at the earliest so that he could look after his parents and of course he needed to get married and settle down as well.                                                   

  So this is the background of our short story where we have a hero, a middle class family and their values etc.                          

This routine continued for quite some time. Then suddenly something very interesting happened. Kunj was waiting for the city bus and he notices a petite young lady who seemed to be office going. She seems to be in a hurry and checks her wrist watch and suddenly asks Kunj what is the time? and clerifies that her watch has stopped working. Kunj tells her the time and she boards her bus that just arrived. Kunj too boards the same bus even though it was not the one he was waiting for. The young lady gets down at her stop followed by Kunj. He walks behind her at some distance and notices the lady enters a building which he guesses might be her office building. This became a routine affair. The young lady followed by Kunj till the office and back. She notices that Kunj was a gentle man of no harm. She understood his interest in her which she discussed with her friend prabha and had a good laugh at the whole matter. But her friend understood that Kirti (the heroine of our story) too had started liking Kunj.                        .   ..  .    .  

A few months roll by with nothing significant except Kunj following Kirti and thinking about her most of the time. Sometimes smiling and day dreaming of sorts. Their neighbour Ganga mausi notices this changed behaviour of Kunj and jokes about the same to his mother.                 ....       

  The coming month proved a turning point in this story Kunj gets a call letter from tolaram and company which was a big enterprise manufacturing textiles and condiments. The job was very interesting and not too difficult to do. The pay and perks were attractive and so Kunj was excited and very very nervous about the interview. Being shy and mostly guided by his father for everything he lacked confidence. On the day of the interview he gets up early, visits the temple near his house , takes the blessings of God and his parents and proceeds to the mentioned office. He is in for a shock to notice that the interview was to be conducted on the first floor of the Building where Kirti was working. It was the same building who knows it better than Kunj. Right?

Sweating and with a lot of nervousness he enters the building and finds few candidates already seated and waiting for their turn. He looks around and finds most of them well dressed , smart and updated. Now this was something that increased his nervousness even more. Then he gets a call from the peon who guides Kunj to the interview chamber. Surprise, Surprise he finds Kirti next to the main person on the panel and understands she might be the personal assistant of that person. Oh no what would happen now? He had been following Kirti for so many days. What if she speaks negatively ? What if does not get the job, ? What will his parents say when they come to know what all has happened?!

With these thoughts he enters the Cabin and wishes the Panel of interviewers and is asked to be seated. Kunj is sweating profusely and drinks water hurriedly and wipes his face and gives a blank smile eagerly waiting to answer the questions asked. The man at the Centre now shoots the first question and in response Kunj replies fumbling and notices the panelists smiling. Kunj felt even more nervous. He observes Kirti too smiling. Oh no what is happening ? Four more questions and the same pattern. Now the panelists announce this is the last question of today's interview and the Man in the centre asks where is the centre of mass of this table?

Kunj is confused and nervous but replies at the centre Sir. To which the Man on the Panel asks why? Kunj shoots back Sir this will be the sixth question and I was told only five will be asked to which all the panelists burst out laughing making the situation light hearted and relaxed. Do you want to know the result of the interview ? Kunj got the job, not because he was nervous and cracked a joke but he was qualified for the job. He proposed to Kirti with his parents' permission of course and got married to his lady love and the story ends well on a happy note.
