The play proved to be a blockbuster in the village. Since that night everyone started calling me Jiten. Dad was no more scolding me. But I was missing something. In those days I used to be like thunder, always unstable. I could not think of staying at home for another 1 and a half months without doing anything. One evening I was sitting at the bank of the river. I used to go there to see the sunset behind the faraway tree lines and mountains. I always sit on a huge black rock and feel the warmth of the drowning daylight. That day I was thinking about the future. I do it often. I was thinking about a day when there will be millions of suns in the sky, no more hunger, and free of disease and crimes. Everyone will be safe and happy. About living each day like your last. To accept the reality of life etc.," Jiten, is that you?" I heard someone calling.

I looked behind. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice that it had already gotten dark. Through that pitch darkness, I saw a person's silhouette and it was coming closer and closer towards me. Then I saw a motorcycle parked not so far behind that silhouette. By seeing that motorcycle my legs started to tremble with fear. It was Godfather. He came near to me. Sat dawn on the rock and signaled me to sit alongside him. I sat quietly and started to think of an excuse to get the hell out of there. He began," Listen Jiten, I know that you are a brilliant student. Not just in studies, you are a good kid too. Ever since you were just a kid, I have always looked at you as my younger brother. Well, let's come to the point. You know Ankita right? I want you to take care of her studies. Maybe you can do some private classes or something. What do you say?" He put a Navy Cut cigarette in his mouth and tried to flicker a matchstick.

My legs were still trembling. I was trying to see his revolver which he always used to keep in his waist. I had never seen it but I had heard people talking about it. After lighting the cigarette, he continued," Listen, I don't want to force you to respond. I know the condition of your family. So I will pay you 100 bucks every month. What do you say? It's good money." I was laughing inside. It was just too hilarious for me. How can you say no to a person who carries a gun? I just nodded silently." Well then. You have to come to her house every evening. Including Sundays. I will see you there at 6 tomorrow." He said by stressing the digit 6. Then he stood up to leave. I wish I could have told no at that very moment. I was standing alone on the sandy riverbed with my bare feats getting buried ever so gently into the cold sand. There was an uncomfortable uneasiness in the air. I sat for a while and came back home. That night I thought about every detail of that encounter on the bed. I don't remember when I went to sleep that night.

Rajaram Pujari aka Godfather. He was a criminal. Political murders, kidnapping, smuggling of liquor and marijuana, robbery he had his hands in everything. Twice he was even given a jail sentence but somehow managed to come back within 48 hrs. He used to keep a revolver in his waist. He never did anything to any of the villagers but still, everyone was afraid of him. He had a Rajdoot motorcycle once manufactured by Escorts Groups and Yamaha. When he used to ride his motorcycle on the road, every child used to hide in their house and never came out until the noise of the rajdoot faded away completely. No one knows to date who named him Godfather, but I am sure that many even don't know what his real name was. I was not surprised to see him coming to me with the proposal of a tuition class for Ankita. Ankita was the daughter of let lawyer Mr. Mishra. People knew that how he once helped godfather to get bail on a murder charge that everyone was certain of a life sentence. Since that day godfather respected Mr. Mishra till his last breath. When lawyer Mishra died Ankita was only 6 years old babe. The life of a widow in a village is never easy. Everyone tries to take benefit of you or use you to get what they want. But no one had ever even tried to look at the Mishra family because of the godfather.

The whole next day I was thinking about the course of study. Aniket, my best friend had come to me that day. I told him all about the last evening incident. His jaws were wide open at the end of it. "Seriously you are going to tuition Ankita? Is that also private? For real? Fuck! you are damn lucky for sure", He screamed in cheers. I was surprised by his reaction as I was expecting his obituary not to overjoy. "Are you okay? Because I guess you haven't heard me saying Godfather", I said annoyingly by seeing his juvenile jolly face. Aniket replied," Just ignore him, man. Who on earth thinks about the beast when you have a beauty in front of you?"

I was looking at him with puzzling eyes as all his words were above my head. He read my mind," What! Seems like you have not seen her these days. Damn, dude. She is a real beauty. I can bet that you can't find a girl like her in our whole area and I seriously mean it. You are one lucky bastard for sure. But she has nothing in her brain though. I mean how can you even fail in the 10th class exam 3 fucking times?" I was getting increasingly annoyed with his words and replied," Look, I will be there for teaching her and only for teaching." "Well then seems like you will be sailing through some turbulent waters, my friend. I have heard that she had at least 20 tutors in the past two years, all failed. You will be the 21st one. Are you nervous? Can you do what the other 20 could not? That is the answer our audience will find out in our next episode. Hoist the color mate, we are heading for the treasure..." he told cheekily while getting up to leave. I came till the door with him to see him off. He suddenly stopped and turned back towards me, hugged me, and whispered in my ears," Promise me that you will teach your bhabi the best possible way you can." I just smiled at him. I returned to my study room and tried to re-consternate on preparation, but I didn't know why I was trying to imagine the most beautiful face I had known.
