Anabelle
Anabelle
“The cascade of knowledge whether it be hierarchical, technical or methodical, remains the same for a man who knows not to evolve with the evolution of the human mind. From times immemorial the human brain showed its extremes of excellence in the manifestation of creative ideas into reality. But as head and tail together makes a complete coin so does understanding and not understanding together makes the human mind”.
When the lecture started, how long it will continue seemed an unsolved riddle for Anabelle.
“Anabelle, I think you are not interested in the class. This is your first class. I have not even started going into the core and you are feeling bored. Why is it so, Ana? Are you not interested in psychology and sociology?”
Ana shook her head randomly as if she came out of a temporary trance. Taking deep breaths and eyes rolling to escape she responded inadmissibly.
“Mam I thought of changing my subjects and so my mind deviated from your lecture. Sorry Mam”. Although Anabelle responded her answer made Miss Lydia cross her limit of patience.
“Do you know Anabelle; you can change your subjects only after the first semester. I told you several times, to investigate the subjects before your admission and to have a talk with your seniors if needed. But you didn’t bother to do so”.
“No Mam, I felt I liked psychology and sociology but now I’m regretting”. Miss Lydia was amazed at what Anabelle spoke.
“It’s okay Anabelle but today is the first class of the academic year, how can you judge the subjects without learning even a single word what’s in them. If you are so indecisive now, then how can you take for granted that you will be comfortable after six months when you change your subjects”.
“No Mam I thought of not continuing my studies instead go for modelling. But I’m not used to high heels; in fact, I don’t like them. So, I preferred to continue my studies and meanwhile if I can make up my mind, most probably I would buy a pair of high heels and if feel comfortable then think of modelling once again”.
Miss Lydia met many students in her professional career but Anabelle’s entry into her life came as a full toss. How time passed both of them couldn’t count. Since it was the first class of the session, Lydia didn’t take the matter seriously. She never imagined that Anabelle’s words were merely not jokes but she did mean what she said.
“Hi, Anabelle it’s break time now, what’s bout a cup of coffee at the canteen”.
“Wow, Samson now you remember me but when I was arguing with Lydia Mam, where were you?”
“Sorry, Ana, that was your problem. Why can’t you take at least a single decision at your own risk?”
As the two were talking, Ana took the first sip of coffee but couldn’t drink it. She made awkward faces and rose to go.
“What happened Ana? Are you ok? What made you leave in the middle?”Samson asked surprisingly.
“ It's nothing serious, Samson. In fact, I don’t like coffee”, Ana responded calmly.
“You could have told me before I gave the order”.
“I thought, but couldn’t take a decision on either tea or coffee. By the way you didn’t give me an option too”.
“After all, the coffee is wasted and our leisure hour. Grow up Ana; learn to make a decision even if it hurts someone. At least it will not hurt you”.
Seeing Samson’s anger Ana tried to change the scene.
“Come on Samson, it’s just a matter of coffee cup. You had your coffee, isn’t it? Now let’s go to our class”.
Trying her best to cheer Samson up they finally reached the classroom.
“Ana if you don’t mind can I sit with you during this period”.
Giving a confusing smile Anna took her bag and started, “Samson I think today I'll not attend more classes. In fact I’ve to continue my modelling classes. Then I will have a better recourse in choosing one of my options to give it a priority”, with these words Anna rushed to the main gate with short steps as cat’s paw🐾.
“What the hell, Ana. Don’t say that you'll continue modelling parallel with your half-done studies”.
From a far distance, shouted Anna, ”You are right Samson. Byeeeee……”
“Ana you came so early. Is everything okay? How was your first class”.
“Mom, first let me take some rest. I have to go to my modelling class in the evening. You know Mom, it’s my passion”.
“I know you very well Ana. In the evening if you say that you want to go scuba diving or parasailing, I'll not be surprised”.
“Wow! Nice Idea Mom. Let’s do them tomorrow. By the way, today I have my modelling class in the evening”, with the half-finished lecture, Anna tucked into bed.
How she maintains all these thoughts and plans which never go true to life, God knows better. Anna’s mother knows her better and thought not waking her up rather wait for the never-ending show.
“Hello, Samson. How many periods do we have today? Did the teachers ask a
bout me? Sorry, today I left you in between. I'm coming tomorrow”.
“How were your modelling classes today?”Samson asked eagerly.
“Well, I didn’t go today; I was busy with something else”.
“By the way, may I ask your honour at what task you were busy with”, Samson asked humorously.
“I was sleeping”.
“So, Ana, you really have a problem. I thought you are serious about your career as a model, but I was wrong. I thought you are serious about your educational career, but I was wrong. Why can’t you take any decision seriously”, Samson had more to share with Ana but he thought it was of no use.
“You know, Samson what is my problem. I take every decision seriously. How can you think that I'm indecisive?”
“Sorry Ana, if my words hurt you. I care for you. Taking a decision is not a great thing but making the perfect decision at the proper time is the principal trick. So what are you doing tomorrow; are you coming to college or going for modelling classes?”
Anabelle couldn’t respond quickly as usual just because she can’t take decisions not because she can’t communicate properly. In fact, Anabelle is a silver-tongued speaker but she takes time, takes time to take decisions.
“Ummm, okay I'm coming tomorrow, Samson”.
The evening ended with a long unfinished conversation. How and when night crept inside the house Anna couldn’t count. She was lost in a world of indecisive vivacity.
That night she journeyed inside her mind. She saw herself walking on the ramp and winning the best model title, she saw herself flying in the great blue sky and getting the best student trophy in college. She found herself engrossed in a world of fairy tales.
“It’s almost late; I have to go to college. I've to take a proper decision, have indirectly promised Samson”, with the series of thoughts gushing inside Anabelle hurried to college taking a light breakfast.
“Good morning Samson, if you don’t mind, can I sit with you today”.
“Wow! Ana, finally you learned to take decisions. Hope that you'll be attending your classes from now. Am I correct”?
Anabelle didn’t seem to be satisfied with how Samson welcomed her that day.
“Samson, now concentrate on the class. I've something serious issues to share with you. It’s a decision which I've taken last night. Let’s wait for the lunch break”.
Samson saw the serious Annabelle before and preferred to wait for the lunch break.
“I judged myself, understood myself. I like neither tea nor coffee . Finally; I decided to have a coke whenever I feel like drinking something”.
“Oh my God, Ana.What a fool I was to give you some advice. Was this the decision you want to tell me about?”
“No Samson, this was not the decision I took yesterday”.
Samson was about to cry being possessed by the indecisive enchantress.
“Ok boss, I surrender. Please leave me alone Ana”.
“Wait Samson, don’t you want to hear my final decision. I decided not to love you”.
“Are you crazy, Ana; I never told you that I love you”.
“No Samson, it was I who fell in love with you and finally decided not to love you”.
The conversation continued and continued every time Anna takes a decision, Samson being the passive listener as usual.
