A Marriage For The Heavens

When the farmers needed the rains, they would get two frogs to wed each other. The 3rd such ceremony was attended by all of the farmer community, and the whole village was invited. The two chosen frogs were tied to each other and then paraded on a golden plate. Flowers and vermilion were thrown on them, and incense sticks shown.

I was there in the ceremony and saw the frogs sit there dumbfounded, after initial struggles.

A week went by, and still, there were no rains. The village headman called for a meeting, and all the wise men discussed. They concluded that the frogs were of different caste and hence the rain god was not pleased. They declared that all the villagers should capture as many frogs as possible, in the most non-violent way, and bring them to the temple. The head priest would inspect and then choose the best frogs of the same caste for another marriage ceremony.

All the villagers have been busy capturing frogs for the past two days. I have already caught four. We are all very hopeful. Let's see.
