1983 was a special year. It a really special year for world cricket. The 1983 Cricket World Cup. The West Indies, as usual, had the petition of obtaining the world cup. A few teams were there. Mainly Australia, India, Zimbabwe, and others excluding the West Indies. West Indies had already lost the matches against Zimbabwe and India. Of course, the opening match of India was with West Indies and India had a magnificent win. West Indies, after the match, were planning a retaliate against India. In those times West Indies was the No. 1 team and India, not so popular team. Losing from India will harm their status. So, that was normal.

India lost the next two matches against West Indies & Australia. This defeat had shattered the confidence of the team. The next match was a do or die option for India. This match was against Zimbabwe. The players were more disappointed. They assumed that how will they win against a team that has defeated West Indies? But the captain, Kapil Dev encouraged the team that they had also won against West Indies. So, India is none the less than Zimbabwe. Kapil’s prophecy was accurate! India had won! The semi-finals were coming close and irrevocably Team India won the semi-finals to step into the finals against West Indies.

This match had a twist! Yes, I know I am saying about twists but this twist changed world history. India had performed well in batting. But the bowling part was exceptional. The last wicket for the match. Kapil Dev bowls and – “Outs That!!!” The whole country celebrates with smiles on faces and triumphs in hearts.

The Indian Captain highs up The 1983 Cricket World Cup Trophy.
