My Monday Mornings

My Monday Mornings

1 min
250

My seventh alarm goes off

Along with my neighbour’s pressure cooker..

These two-day weekends are never enough

Agrees my roommate lost from yesterday’s liquor..

I wink at the smugly shining sun

Wondering if he ever employs the gift of ‘snooze’..

A sparrow outside is having plenty of fun

Why don’t these birds ever get ‘Monday blues’?

My toothbrush goes round and round

Reminding me of the washing-machine used a night before..

I wonder if today’s clothes can be easily found

When my phone starts panicking with a call from onshore..

I switch on the toaster and let the milk boil

Challenging myself to take a bath before the milk spills out..

I step in the bathroom and the geyser plays foil

Forcing me to take a cold shower, thereby turning me devout..

I have found a usable pair of pants

But the shirts in plain sight are all crumpled..

I thank Bangalore for its constant cold trance

And hide under a sweater, letting my shirt feel cuddled..

I step out of my house

To pass the non-functional elevator

And climb down the Penrose stairs..

A congested road invites me

And my car waits like an alligator

Charging me up for a grinding week’s affairs..
