Love By Chance Or Love By Fate

Yesterday night, as we lay in each other’s arms, 

You kissed me as usual 

But asked me something unusual

“Do you think our relationship is a result of fate..

..Or is it a result of chance?”

I replied playfully with a kiss then 

But here is the real reply - in your cherished written form..

Do you know how I found our favourite book, “Tuesdays with Morrie”?

I was exploring books under the ‘Arts’ title in the library

When a stack came tumbling down like a busy brook 

In the grim and gloomy ‘Philosophy’ section..

I rushed there, to help the librarians lift and carry 

After which they handed me their wise smile and that wiser book 

As a token of bibliophilic affection..

Do you know how I discovered our favourite movie, “Notting Hill”?

I was transferring software files from a friend's hard disk

When I came across a hidden folder on top

Labeled “For Adult viewing only“..

Knowing my friend's taste and what made him tick

I slyly copied that folder to my laptop 

Only to find an odd man out - that charming romantic movie.. 

Do you know how I first walked into our favourite cafe? 

I was passing by the place when the Bangalore skies broke open

As if they had found the only perfect solution 

To break off the hour-long traffic jams..

I peeped inside to find seashell chairs and walls painted like the ocean

And I stepped in to smell the aroma of a great coffee decoction 

That opened the gates to my sensory dams..

Do you know how I became a writer? 

A cousin of mine wanted to pursue her Masters in the US 

Not for her ambition, but to avoid her marriage 

And she wanted me to help her with the statement of purpose..

Little did I know that I would rediscover Ruskin Bond and Dr Seuss

Through an essay that seemed like an achievement carriage 

And from there, I would go on to express my love for poetry and prose.. 

Do you know how I found you? 

A friend and I had come to the college canteen 

And there you were all alone 

He pointed to you and remarked, "That's sad!"

But I thought you were in your happy zone..

My heart suddenly felt less lonelier

A voice in me whispered that my peace was near

I gathered the courage to walk up to you and say 'Hi!' 

Thankfully you had come across my blog earlier

Else I cannot imagine what would have happened, Oh my! 

So, what do you think is the answer?

Is it chance? 

Or is it fate?

If it’s chance, let us visit the temple tonight

If it’s fate, then I propose a dinner date..
