Journey to Jallainwala

Journey to Jallainwala

1 min
327

As I wandered through the sands,

With waves kissing my feet,

I struck upon a machine so weird,

That resembled a phone, but not for real.

The colourful buttons enticed me,

And as I pressed them out of curiosity,

The machine vibrated twice,

And started flashing a number prompt.

My hands shivered and fingers trembled

As I keyed in some random digits.

1919 was the year,

And April 13, the month and date.

The machine swirled and there I was

Stuck in a whirlpool.

And as the smoke subdued,

I found myself at Jallainwala Bagh.

I felt awkward initially,

But was quick to understand a fact.

The fact that I was invisible,

To the people around me.

I mingled with the crowd seamlessly,

And saw the crowd entering the park.

Soon behind came the soldiers,

Who sealed the entry points.

Everything was calm and peaceful,

And suddenly there was a command,

"Fire", said General Dyer,

Sans any provocation.

Bullets pranced ruthlessly,

Through the flesh, and even walls.

Some jumped into the well,

Eventually death met them all.

I shivered again

And quickly typed 2022.

My machine vibrated and

Here I was back to the present.

Reading through the massacre,

Sent a shiver down the spine.

Witnessing that incident,

Was next to inviting sleepless nights.

The machine, looked at me,

Probably, yearning for more numbers.

Another journey awaited me,

Should I take it or pass?
