I Thank All My Teachers!

My parents were my first teachers,

Taught me everything from scratch,

To talk, to walk, to study, to play, to love,

The values in life to grow into an all-round personality!

My class teacher in standard six, Ms Lobo I remember so well,

And my high school biology teacher Ms Mai Mathais,

They were the best among all others who taught us very well,

At the same time were involved with us and were kind and caring too!

In college my best teacher was Prof Shashidhar Sir,

He taught us Plant Genetics, such a brilliant and friendly person,

During our State tour in the third year of BSc Agriculture,

He was more of a friend than a teacher with all of us!

After Marriage, my beloved better half came into the picture,

We learnt many things from each other, to like, love, mingle and adjust,

Air Force culture sprinkled in with its discipline and standards,

Children came in and the old pattern followed to teach them what we had learnt till now!

Being a teacher, I understand the role of a teacher thoroughly well,

The subject we teach, the values we imbibe, students observe us and learn too,

A special bond develops between the teacher and students, that is something which is felt and can’t be explained,

Missing them the most these days, especially their pampering on Teachers Day!

Along with teaching, learnt a lot from my colleagues and higher ups,

Tessy Ma’am and Jayanti Ma’am were the cream of the lot,

To work, to learn, to improve, to guide and to keep going,

Learnt from the house keeping staff who work for such long hours, yet a ready smile to greet always!

Now after teaching for twenty-two years, enjoying my student days again,

Learning art from Abdullah Pathan Sir, who is so creative and a genius in art,

Our classroom is lively and calm at the same time, creating master pieces of our own,

All due to his encouragement and patience is bringing in the confidence in us to paint!

Now, to my pet dog, my teacher of unconditional love and loyalty,

I have learnt to understand all other animals all because of my Judo,

My friends, cousins and family taught me to love, care, share and enjoy life,

On this Teachers Day Sept 5th, 2023, I thank all of my lovely teachers today!
