I Died A Thousand Times!

I Died A Thousand Times!

3 mins

I might have died a thousand times,

but was fortunate to be born again!

The first encounter with death,

as I call it now was at the early age of five.

I was too naïve!

It just happened I was in my seat,

and suddenly there was a puddle between my feet!

I thought my heart would stop,

As I wriggled and wiggled,

my partner noticed,

and before I could turn red as a beet,

she had spilt the water all over my drawing sheet.

She winked and smiled,

and I heaved a sigh!

She just saved me, else I would have died!

I wasn’t the brightest student in my class,

every time I braved up to ask something

the fear of being laughed and ridiculed

pulled me down,

and my courage fizzled out,

with it, a part of me always withered and died.

But a ray of hope would appear from somewhere deep within

and banish the darkness and bring me back to life in a spin.

They say, “Growing up with tears and laughter is a happy sign!”

I was a brave heart,

I could handle all the notorious boys on my radar.

But at home when dadi always favoured bhaiya,

I felt cheated and betrayed,

and somewhere a part

of me withered and died again.

But the very next second me, you would embrace

and everything would be back in place.

Like this, I grew up in-between shades of grey,

I might have died a thousand times,

but was fortunate to be born again!

I got married and left home.

With me, I carried all the happy memories

and left a part of me behind.

I could feel it wither and die,

as I moved ahead in a new life.

And I was fortunate to be born again,

with new relations and a new life!

Then the day came,

I became a mother,

and this time with you, my child I was born again!

I was born in a way I had never existed before!

I might have died a thousand times,

but each time I, reinvented myself

and emerged brighter, stronger and purer than before!

From the midst of destruction, I became the creator!

From the midst of darkness, I become the source of light.

All this was only for you my child!

Now promise me, my son,

You will stay true to yourself and to your mother.

You will value all your relations.

You will hold every woman as your equal!

And because of you, no one will have to die a thousand times!!
