Are We Really Independent?
Are We Really Independent?
That little family down the lane
Has gone to bed without a morsel or grain
While you’re busy taming your mane
Think what you’ve saved and aside lain.
There’s a little girl with pleas all silent
But her mother carrying her is compelled to take a step so violent
No freedom to scream, no liberty to vent
Against the countless onslaughts and customary dent.
But what do you and I care? After all, we are independent.
Smiles no more the bereaved mother, an unsaid order
From the martyr resting somewhere near the border
Humanity is chained down, morality is battered
In the name of religion, the fragile nation
is shattered.
Education for all – the ultimate commandment sent,
It requires neither rent nor a down payment
Global destitution on the rise, so give your mind that right bent,
In the face of the deluge, just calmly pitch up Noah’s tent.
But what do you and I care? After all, we are independent.
You can judge me for all I care
But think once more, for the citizens of tomorrow do we have enough to share?
At the helm are our leaders, busy in a new game of truth and dare,
Remember history? With our gems and spices robbed, resources are too rare
But what do you and I care? After all, we are independent.
