A Million Promises
A Million Promises
Words of hope and affection,
Strung together by you.
A million times.
Precious more they are to me,
Than all the world's jewels and dime.
Joy warms my heart
And thrill courses through the body.
Reliving the moments when they were said by you to me
Breaking into smiles
Understood by few
I am lulled into asking tomorrow to come soon,
Like a child, I wish on the moon.
I wait, wait, and wait some more.
Told by most, its a promise,
And as true as the bedtime lore.
Advising me caution, they said to me,
That these words are not kept to be.
Yet your words have lived
Just like I have breathed and thrived.
Your promises of future
And my today
Are entwined.
And in these million minutes of each day, is hidden my longing and wait.
Broken is my heart,
Yet there is not an ounce of hate.
After all, it was a promise, made by a man
Time has seen far too many,
And I should have not believed in any.
