The First Flight

Today was an important day of her life. The day she had always dreamt about. . the day for which she had sacrificed a lot. As she decked up in her uniform and stood infront of the mirror, all those comments and harassment echoed in her ears.

She shut her eyes and saw herself crying amidst the group of her classmates who mocked her. She felt nostalgic as she saw the reflection of her childhood in the mirror.

She was just like an ordinary ten year old girl who was thrown out of the school. She reached home and told about the happenings at school to her mother. To her surprise she packed the bags and they both left for a new place.

Her mother 'Aai' as she fondly called her, never allowed her to step out of the house. She never had any friends only Aai was there. They never lived in the same city and kept changing places. There were numerous question that remained answered. But that day she got all answers when she went to a college for admission. She was at the enquiry office when a group of girls surrounded her.

"Ohh! see who is standing in the queue for admission?" The crowd laughed jokingly. She got nervous and tried to ignore her.

"Are you blind? Can't you see this is a girl's college and there's no place for third genders. "

She stood stunned. Without uttering a single word she ran from that place and barged into her house.

"Aai who am I?"she roared with tears flowing endlessly.

Aai understood that finally the day arrived "You are my Akki. . . my Akansha. You are a special one not like the others. You are the chosen one and so Almighty decided to make you different. This world is blindfolded with prejudices. God didn't paint this world with pink and blue. He painted a rainbow but our society dosn't accept it. But I never thought as per the norms of the society. The way he crafted me in the same way you are his creation. I accepted you wholeheartedly without even questioning his wish as I have full faith in Him. Everyone wanted me to abandon you . But I was determined to show the world that capabilities and talent is not limited by genders.

I knew that my Akki will break the shackles. You will answer all the hatred and sneering by achieving your goals one day. Just ignore what people say and fly high. Sky is the limit my dear. "

Tears welled up in her eyes as she suddenly realised her name being announced. Confidently she tucked her batch on her shirt and walked straightaway into the cockpit. All her fears and nervousness was lost as she got ready for her maiden flight. She knew today was her day. . . day to prove her worth.
