The Real Hero

Being a part of a specific profession is not the hallmark of being a patriotic person. Patriotism & a zeal to serve the motherland is inbuilt in some people right from their childhood. One such personality is Colonel Ram Mohan Pandey, my Honourable Father-in-Law.

His stories of sacrifices as an Armymen are innumerable but his commitments as a true son of soil are worth following.

Even after getting retired from the Indian Army as a Colonel, he never stood at home & rejoined his services as District Soldier Welfare Officer after that.

He made common people aware of all the government-run welfare schemes & always ensured that the benefits reach needy people. Unfortunate crippled people, whose family has abandoned them, Honourable Col. R.M. Pandey provided pension facilities & other necessary things to them & always ensured that they receive consistent benefits.

It is really sad that widow women of our country, are most of the time unaware of their rights & are unable to take advantage of what Hon. Govt. of India has given to them. Col. R.M. Pandey made people aware of their actual rights & ensured that they get what they truly deserve.

Innocent people from villages often fear visiting Higher Government Officials, but, Col.R M Pandey, made the face-to-face mode of communication accessible to those people. Anytime they could meet him & rectify their problems with utmost security.

His consistent zeal to serve the people of the nation was not only limited to this but he thoroughly cared about their daily life problems also. 

Wherever the road was improper, he got those roads metaled for making it easy for daily commuting. Voluntarily he became a part of many public welfare communities to understand the problems of common people in a better way & serve them more purposefully.

Corona pandemic shook the entire world & the losses were innumerable. This great officer could not see the pain of common people. How could he, when his entire life is just a story of service & sacrifice?

Deeply pained by the trouble of common people, he started the task of making sanitiser at his own home & distributing it not only in his own community but also in nearby villages. 

In his personal vehicle, he used to distribute food materials to many far-off villages to fulfil the needs of deprived people.

His sacrifices, both on the battlefield & the social field, are a lesson to learn for our young generation. 

And I really feel proud of myself that I got the honour of being the Son-in-law of such a dynamic personality.
