The Rainman
The Rainman
Ajay was an irrigation officer and he was newly appointed in some remote village. His job was transferable so it was not a big deal for him that authorities used to change his job location after few years. Very happily he used to pack-up his bag and move to the new location. He had a feeling that by visiting different locations, he was exploring our beautiful country. He was very hard working and honest officer.
He was on his way to the new location where he was transferred. On the way he was imagining about what type of atmosphere he is going to face over there, what type of people might be living over there, what will be their behaviour & attitude, what are the current conditions of agriculture over there, all these thoughts were coming in his mind as he was on his way to his new location. Soon he reached his new location, the office cook Bholu came to receive him in a government vehicle and took him to his new government quarter. It was a beautiful quarter, and Ajay with the help of Bholu, systematically arranged everything in 4 hours. After that both of them had a cup of tea with snacks. After spending a quality time with Bholu, he went to sleep.
Next morning after having his breakfast he went to his office. Everyone welcome him. Ajay was very happy to see the kind behaviour of people over there. He sat in his jeep with one of the forest workers and moved towards village to see how it was and meet the people over there. Ajay was surprised to see that the village looked like it was a draught affected area. Ajay decided to meet the sarpanch of that village and went to his home. Looking at sarpanch he said, "Sarpanch Ji, my name is Ajay and I am the new irrigation officer over here. The people of your village are very kind. But I am surprised to see that your village is a drought affected area. How will we take care of irrigation activities over here? There's no water." The sarpanch said, "Sir, I am ashamed to say this that it is because of the greed of the people of our village. Few years ago this was the most beautiful village in the country with enough greenery. One day a businessman came and motivated the village people to cut down the trees in return of huge amount of money. He was a highly talented person, who used to impress anyone by his words. The innocent village people were not able to understand his true intentions. They started cutting down trees & supplying the wood to that person. For few months that person gave them enough money as he promised, but suddenly he ran away somewhere never to return again. Village people were waiting for him to get rewards from him, but he never came. Some of the silly villagers are still waiting for him. In their greed they cut down all the forest and now they are paying for their own sins. I feel sad looking at the condition of this village, but I don't feel sad looking at condition of these villagers. Whatever problems they are facing, only they are responsible for it. Water is life of a farmer Sir, but we haven't seen a single drop of rain since last few years." Listening to him the irrigation officers was shocked. Very politely he said, "Don't worry Sir, I will do something.
"
The irrigation officer moved back to his office. He called someone in Delhi and guided him what needs to be done. After 2 days, from nowhere, multiple trucks came to that village with large number of trees loaded over those tracks. Truck drivers stop their vehicle at the forest officer's office. All the villagers were surprised to see what was happening and gathered together at the office. The truck driver went towards the forest officer and said, "Sir, here are your trees. Now please tell us what should we do?" The forest officer said," thank you very much for your help. Since the day I came into this village I understood that it is a drought affected area. For few days I was only searching for some area in this village which is wet. And after few days I found it. You have to take the trees and plant them over there. I have thoroughly studied that area. It's perfect for growth of the trees."
Listening to the forest officer all the truck drivers went towards that area and started planting trees over there. It took them one week to properly plant those trees over there. Everyday from morning till the evening the forest officer was with them. Finally the task was over after 15 days. To celebrate the success, the forest officer organised a party at his residence where the people who planted those trees were invited. The forest officer graciously thankef them for their untiring efforts. Village people were also surprised to see the extreme hard work of the forest officer.
One day the villages were waiting outside the forest office, and the forest officer was explaining them something. As they were talking to each other, suddenly the sky started turning black. The sunlight was slowly fading away and a dark entity was taking its place. Everyone looked at the sky surprisingly. Suddenly three drops of water fell on the eyes of the forest officer. He shouted, "It's raining!" All the villagers suddenly looked at him and then they looked at the sky. Within seconds heavy rainfall started. It was an unbelievable scenery. The drought affected area where people were crying for few drops of water since last many years, God has sent all the water from all over the world to that place in one day. People were shouting and dancing. It was the most happiest day of the life of those village people.
Suddenly the sarpanch came near the forest officer, bent down his knees, and put his head on the feet of the forest officer. The forest officer lifted him up & said, "Sarpanch Ji, what are you doing? You are like my father." The sarpanch said, "No Sir, you are God. You have done something that we were waiting for since last many years. Most of our old villagers died waiting for this day. But today you did it sir, you did it. Thank you very much. You are God for us." Saying these words the Sarpanch shouted, "Raiman Zindabad". Listening to him all the villagers moved towards the forest officer, and went down their knees with folded hands. All of them started shouting together, "Rainman Zindabad, Rainman Zindabad".
Ajay was standing in front of them with folded hands. Non stop tears were coming out of his eyes.
