The streaks of light coming from our room had dimly lit the steps of the front porch. I knew I was late, way too late. With trepidation in my chest, I headed to our room on tiptoe. With my heart banging against my lungs, I pushed the door open. I removed my stilettos, and now, with a sudden heaviness settling behind my eyelids I forced myself to look up in your direction.

And there you were, sleeping with the quilt tucked under your chin, screaming warmth and home to me. I threw my bag off my shoulder and sat down beside you as silently as I always had. I ran my fingers as lightly as I always had along those faint lines of worry on your face. I knew you would fall asleep while waiting for me like you always had. I also knew you would worry about me as you always had. But then again, I had also known, you would love me like you always had.

A familiar smell hit me as I bend over to breathe in the fragrance of your hair. You always knew how much I loved your hair, especially when you slept. You always knew how much I loved running my fingers in the mess that resided above your head in the mornings. You always knew how much I craved to meddle with your hair, especially when you had it all set. You knew it all, right? And then again, I had also known, despite all the annoyed and irritated looks you would throw at me, you would still let me love your hair like you always had.

My eyes drifted towards the windows of your soul. I propped up and pressed my lips on those closed lids as gently as I always had. You always knew, how much I loved those brown orbs of yours, especially when they gleamed in excitement and passion. You always knew how much I loved to look in your eyes whenever we talked rather than focusing on the words coming out of your mouth. You always knew, how jealous I used to be of those ways too pretty lashes adorning your eyes. You always knew, how much I loved pecking your eyes goodbye when you left for work. You knew it all, right? And then again, I had also known, you would let me love your eyes every day like you always had.

The faint heaving of your chest brought me out of my serendipity. A silent smile bloomed on my face as I basked in the warmth that you emanated. It was a blessing how you always knew each and everything that I loved about you. You always knew, how much I loved the way your nose would turn red whenever you had cold. You always knew, how much I loved the way your beard would prick my palms whenever I caressed your face. You always knew, how much I loved the way you sang out your favorite song at the top of your lungs while you made the brunch for us. You always knew, how much I loved the way you lifted me into your arms whenever happiness knocked at our door. You always knew, how much I loved the way you held me whenever we slept through the lazy Sundays. You always knew, how much I loved to create thousands of memories out of everything we would do together. You always knew, you always knew it, each and every time.

And you also knew, that I always loved you. Perhaps that's why despite all you still fell asleep while waiting for me to come back home from work. Perhaps, that's why despite all, you still made dinner for me and left it on the table. Perhaps that's why despite coming home late on the night of our third marriage anniversary you still welcomed me with nothing but warmth. Perhaps that's why, despite existing in different spheres of the profession and all those long hours of distance between us, we still would wake up to the rays of the morning in the arms of each other. And then again, I had always known it too, that you always loved me, that you always would.

I glanced at the clock, it was past midnight and our special day had ended. But, wasn't every single day special when I still had you beside me? " Thank you for always knowing that I loved you and that I always would. " I whispered as I slipped beneath the quilt. And then again, only after a minute or so I felt your arms holding me securely against your chest and your lips on my hair...
