The Will……..

Rakesh was sitting on the sofa in his father late Ram Prakash’s room and going through the files and diaries. Rakesh Prakash is the only child of his parents. His father Ram Prakash was a reputed person of Jharkhand and belong to Ranchi. Ram Prakash was an advocate by profession and belong to a zamindar family. He was associated with social service activities too. Ram Prakash lost his wife Kamala Devi, when Rakesh was only 12 years old. Ram Prakash had not got married again and taking care of Rakesh and was engaged with his social activities during free time. Ram Prakash had put Rakesh in the best boarding school for his education. After completing school Rakesh completed M B B S and gone to abroad for higher studies. Rakesh completed his specialization on neurology there and got settled there. Also, he got married to Sunita a doctor by profession there. Ram Prakash though approved the marriage of Rakesh, but didn’t like his getting settled there. Rakesh is settled in London.

Ram Prakash was associated with one orphanage home, one boarding school for poor and under privileged children. The school was started by his wife Kamala before Rakesh was burned. She was taking care of the school and initially was teaching to the children there too. She used to take care of those children as her own. She was called by everybody as ‘’MAA’’. Ram Prakash was very supportive and was too giving some time for the development of the school. The school was run by the finance of Ram Prakash. As Kamala Devi was very much fond of children after her death, Ram Prakash had started the orphanage in memory of her. He loved his wife and her activities. Both of them gave good teachings to Rakesh. When Rakesh was burned both were very happy and the inmates of the school had celebrated that day to welcome their brother. When Rakesh was a child Kamala Devi was taking him to the school with her. Rakesh started his education from that school and was there till Kamala Devi was alive. After the death of Kamala Devi, the school and the orphanage is being managed by the trust formed by Ram Prakash. Apart from this Ram Prakash was also fighting for social causes for poor free of cost. These had given him a separate status and place in the society and Jharkhand. He had faced many challenges from other class of people, authorities and some political leaders. Ram Prakash was working on a project on lending free health service to poor people. He was thinking as soon as Rakesh will complete his medical education, he will start a small hospital in his own old building 50 km away from Ranchi. All the plans and detailed activities were been completed on this project and with the trust. The trust was having Ram Prakash as life time Chairman along with his two old friends, one is a charted accountant Mr Ranjan Das and other one is an engineer Mr Rajendra Kumar. As Rakesh was settled in London the implementation of the health project got delayed. But Ram Prakash was having his plan to start it and was trying to get some doctors to be the part of this project. In the mean time he had obtained all required permissions and license for this. Unfortunately, he passed away with a heart attack.

Rakesh was staying in London with his family. Rakesh, Sunita and his two children, son Kartik and daughter Devika had not come to Ranchi since last five years. Before that every year Rakesh used to come with his family and spend two months with his father Ram Prakash. Rakesh knew about the health project. During his last visit he had celebrated the 1st birthday of his daughter Devika with his father and the children of orphanage and of the children of the boarding school. That time Ram Prakash was very happy and celebrated it in a big way. Both the children of Rakesh were been named by Ram Prakash only. Those two months were one of the best times for both Rakesh and Ram Prakash. Sunita too had spend good time with orphanage kids and the school children. Seeing her these activities Ram Prakash was feeling as if a part of Kamala Devi was spending her time with those children. He was internally very pleased and getting some feelings that after his death these institutions can be looked after well by his son and daughter in law. One night after having the dinner Ram Prakash discussed his plan regarding the health project with Rakesh and Sunita. He expected that Rakesh will agree to return to Ranchi and make his health project successful. But Rakesh had disappointed him saying that he needs some time to think over this and it may take some more time. That made Ram Prakash little unhappy and he kept quiet. After some days Rakesh and his family left for London and since last five years never visited Ranchi. Rakesh used to have discussions through video call with Ram Prakash at least once in every week. There in London Rakesh was busy with a new assignment by British government. That new assignment was called ‘’Health on Wheels’’. The British government had started health checkup program for poor and rural area on specially equipped vehicles. Rakesh was one of the few doctors chosen for this assignment. Sunita was working in a local hospital of London and taking care of children. This was too known to Ram Prakash, Ranjan and Rajendra Kumar. Ram Prakash was happy for this, but always he wanted his son to do same work in a larger way in India. On the sudden death of Ram Prakash, Rakesh was informed and he reached along with his family after 3 days as the necessary arrangements of visa and ticket was to be done for travelling. Rakesh reached Ranchi and finished all the rituals.

It was a week after Rakesh completed all rituals had gone inside his father’s bed room and touched all parts of it. He sat on the sofa, where usually he used to sit with his father always. The tears were rolling down from his eyes thinking about his childhood days and his time with parents. He was going through the files of his father and his diaries as Ram Prakash before one month of his death was discussing wit Rakesh on their properties, his investments, the trust and about ‘’The Will’’ made by him to run and take care of all these after his death. That time Rakesh took everything lightly and told his father not to discuss regarding death. Even he had committed his father not to worry about all his institutions and charities, it will be always taken care. That’s the reason he was looking for all those papers to have a look. He found the latest diary and opened it. Ram Prakash was having a habit of writing the happenings in his diary everyday night before going to sleep. While going through that diary on the date of his conversation regarding all these properties and will, Rakesh found that his father had mentioned in detail of their discussions and lastly mentioned,’’ Rakesh all the papers of properties, trust and my will be with your uncle Ranjan. Son in my absence discuss with both Ranjan and Rajendra and take their advice. The boarding school was your mother’s heart and orphanage were mine. The health project was my dream project, I had completed everything and it need to just start. I made the trust to handle and control all these. When I will not be in this world have discussions with my both friends and they will show you the right way. ’Rakesh started crying like a child after reading this. He was thinking of his father, even at this age always he had taken the best care of him and to maintain that in his absence he had planned it too. He was thinking of how much his father loved him and cared him and he couldn’t fulfill his wish of implementing the health project when he was alive. Rakesh had decided to implement the health project and he will discuss it with Sunita. He had decided to discuss with the British government and quite their project and permanently shift to Ranchi.

Rakesh controlled his emotions and left his father’s room. He discussed with Sunita about the decision just he had taken. Sunita looked at Rakesh and gave a smile of appreciation and told him that she is very happy about his decision. She told Rakesh to proceed on this and meet both Ranjan and Rajendra and let them be aware of his decision. Rakesh agreed to this and thought of meeting them. Rakesh made a call to Ranjan and asked, ’uncle can I meet you today evening? I would like to discuss something important about me with both you and Rajendra uncle.’’ Ranjan was bit nervous, but he made himself comfortable and told Rakesh that both he and Rajendra will come to Rakesh today evening and will discuss then.

Ranjan and Rajendra came around 7 pm in the evening to Rakesh. They had tea and snacks. All were bit serious at that time and to make it bit lighter Sunita told to Ranjan and Rajendra for having dinner with them and she had already informed about this their respective wives. Rajendra had a light smile looking at Sunita, remembering the old days, when Kamala Devi used to do the same thing. Both Ranjan and Rajendra started feeling a spark of Kamala Devi in Sunita. Then Ranjan started asking Rakesh,’’ yes my dear you wanted to discuss something with us, please tell whatever you want to say.’’ Rakesh started telling them about his decision and plan.

Rakesh told them that he had decided to be shifted from London to Ranchi and fulfill his father’s dream project. He even told Ranjan that after implementation of that and opening of the hospital he will add the ‘’Health on Wheel’’ project like he is been assigned by the British government. Rakesh briefed them about it’s feature and how it can be helpful for rural people. Both Ranjan and Rajendra felt very happy about the decision of Rakesh. Then they with tears in their eyes told ,’’now Ram , you see our Rakesh will be here to make your dream true.’’ Then Rakesh requested both of them to give 3 months’ time to complete all formalities there in London and arrange for the shifting. Then Ranjan took out a bunch of papers from a file he had brought and told everybody that,’’ please listen to ‘The Will’ of late Mr Ram Prakash. I will read it out.’’ Rakesh told,’’ uncle let it be there with you. I have only one goal now to make my father’s dream true. ’Then Ranjan told,’’ no dear it’s important to read out and this was too the wish of your late father. Let me read it out.’’

Ranjan took out the papers and read it out. It was having the details like, the Trust will be headed by his son Rakesh by replacing him, the bank fixed deposits and money will be equally divided among his grandson and granddaughter, the old building will be converted in to the hospital, 50 percent of the income from agriculture and other properties will go to the trust and rest to his daughter in law Sunita, The house and adjacent rental building of Ranchi will be for Rakesh and Sunita will be the new care taker and head of the boarding school, Rakesh will be the head of the health project. Then Ranjan stopped and looked at Rakesh and told,’’ Son this will has to be registered accordingly and we both will be the witness for the execution of this will.

Rakesh asked,’’ uncle can’t this registration be done after our shifting to Ranchi? How come my father was confident that I will be taking the decision to shift to Ranchi?’’ Ranjan smiled and replied,’’ his love for you was his confidence. He was having confidence in his upbringing you. This was Ram’s all noble deeds made him thinking and expecting all the best positive returns from you. Your father is a great personality. We two had missed him and till our last breath we will be always with you dear. Now you both have to take your parents good works to a new height. This will be the true tribute to them. Yes, as you wish we can do all the legal works after you got shifted to Ranchi. But till that time, you are the temporary Chairman of the trust and you can give your plans to run it, we will see that all are executed.’’ Then Sunita came and announced that the dinner is ready. All of them had the dinner together. Rakesh informed to both Ranjan and Rajendra that next week he will go to London with family to complete all formalities as soon as possible and shift to Ranchi. He requested to his both uncles that till his return to take care of everything as it was. Rakesh was feeling happy to know that his father had made everything easy for him ………….
