The River...

The River...

I was in my room, a dark room filled with silence. I was lying down on my bed, my eyes staring at the ceiling. I knew I could not ignore him this time. I stood up, switched on the room light, and pulled my drawer. I took out a box of cigarettes and opened it, only to find one cigarette left. I knew I needed it for this moment. I turned off the light in my room, as I felt more comfortable in the dark. I went out to my balcony, plugged my earphones into my ears, and played a song. I lit the cigarette with a lighter, took a puff, and closed my eyes. I was missing him. I wanted to hear him, listen to his laughter, his talking, his babbling, his childishness. I wanted him to be mad at me, to scold me, just like the first time. But I knew I couldn't see him because he was gone. With each puff, I remembered him, seeing him in my memories, the memories I had with him throughout the year.

The cigarette reached its end, and I knew I had to let it go, or it would burn my fingers. So, I let it go, just like I let him go. I stood up, my head swaying, and turned on the room fan. I lay back down on my bed, but it didn't help me see him or feel his presence. And now, I knew there was only one last thing I could do. I closed my eyes. As I closed my eyes, I found myself on a silent road with no trace of humanity. I was wearing mountaineering shoes, black travelling pants, and a navy blue body-fit t-shirt, the same one he had. That made me smile on my sweaty face. I had a map in my hand, acting as my tour guide since I had no idea about the route. It showed that my destiny led through a dense jungle, a quieter and shorter route compared to the road. To find the jungle accurately, I needed a magnetic compass. I took it out of my bag and kept it in front of me. It showed that the direction of the east was on my left side, indicating the jungle would be on the left side of the road. To find the jungle, I had to keep going forward since there was no other way.

The sun was directly above my head, and I could feel its burning rays, but I didn't dare to look up. I took a cap out of my bag and wore it, continuing to walk. After walking for an unknown amount of time, I saw a dense forest on both sides of me, seemingly endless. I wondered which direction I had to go, and then I remembered it was east. I looked at the magnetic compass in my hand and kept it in the middle to find the accurate direction. The compass showed that the left side was in the direction east, confirming that the jungle was on my left side, the left side of the road. As soon as I knew the direction, all I could visualize was my destination, and that made me smile. With that, I moved forward.

After walking a few steps, I reached my destination. I put my bag down, took it off my shoulder, and sighed. The sun was just about to set, and as I watched the orange sun, I realized I had arrived on time. I decided to sit on the tiny pebbles, kneeling down with my legs and laying my head on my knees. I crossed my arms and let my eyes scan the watery environment from left to right. I could see the flowing water, humming and whispering at the same time. After observing it for some time, I took out my diary and pen from my bag. I started writing a poem and titled it 'River.' I was watching the river and writing simultaneously. When I stopped writing, I looked into my diary to see what I had written. The first line of my poem was, "You are the river; I want to sit on the bank." Just as I was about to write another line, my clock started buzzing, and that made me open my eyes. I looked up and smiled at the ceiling above me.
