#Teacher's day
Mr Raghubir Singh Kushwaha was a Professor in Physics at a very popular college in a small beautiful town of Himachal Pradesh, Nahan. He was a genuine personality in himself. With all the knowledge of his subject, he was a hallmark of intelligence & creativity. Such was his command over physics that everyone in the town appreciated his dedication and commitment to his subject.
Along with being a physics expert, he was a nature enthusiast too. That's why his house was surrounded by green trees & flowers all around. Every morning he used to go for a morning walk & after returning he used to take care of his garden. After getting retired, he started teaching physics tuition to the students of Nahan. Students used to come to his home in batches to learn physics. He used to feel excited among students & it felt like teaching is not just a source of income for this great teacher but a passion for a lifetime.
He was a keen observer who used to analyse very thoroughly how his individual students are understanding the concepts of physics & then he used to guide individual students according to their own capacity. Such teachers are actually very rare nowadays. He used to teach 3-4 tuition batches in a day, some days back-to-back, but never felt tired.
He knew this thing that teaching students without break will make them dull. That's why while teaching, sometimes he used to crack jokes also to make the atmosphere jolly. Also sometimes he thoroughly listened to the problems of students apart from subject whenever students discussed such things with him & also gave genuine solutions to those problems. He always treated his students like his own children.
Whenever we scored well in our school examinations, he used to celebrate the moment by offering us sweets & cake as a reward for our hard work.
This was his true love & affection towards his students whom he considered his own children. And for us also, he was a fatherly figure. I still remember the day when I scored the lowest marks on a physics class test & showed him my result. Looking at my notebook he asked me certain questions which I was not able to answer. Some other tuition students were also like me & were not able to answer his questions.
Very humbly he said, "Physics is all about what is happening in your surroundings. Don't consider it just a subject that you have to qualify. And even if somehow you are able to qualify this subject, you will never realise its importance in practical life once you become a working professional.
Never cram any subject. Always try to understand it."
That day we all took an oath that we will never study anything just to qualify for the examination, but to understand the concept perfectly. Taking lessons from our mistakes, we started preparing for the next term's exams very thoroughly. We studied the books thoroughly, analyzed practicals in the laboratory & took the help of online animated videos also to make our understanding clear. We had just one motive in our mind we have to impress our Physics teacher & nothing else.
We really did well in our examination & scored more than 80% this time. It was our board exam & we were excited to show our results to our favourite teacher. Taking our report cards we rushed towards his house where a sweet surprise was waiting for us.
He decorated his teaching room with balloons & a 3 layered cake was kept in the middle of the table. Seeing this we enquired, "Sir, is it your Birthday today?". He smiled & said, "No my dear, it is for all of you. Today we are going to celebrate your success party. In today's morning newspaper, I have seen your results. Well done! I am really proud of all of you. No, come on, let's have a party."
We felt so happy to see this. And yes, on that day, it felt like not us, but our teacher has achieved something special that he desperately desired.
We actually need such teachers who selflessly devote their entire life to the welfare of their students.
