The Olive Green

The colour I saw, when I first open my eyes was "the olive green".

Five in the morning and I could hear them exercise, already half way through. Sweating, tired, yet energetic. They start their day at four every morning, when half of us are sleeping with glory. I've always wondered was is it that keeps them motivated, energizes them enough to break them through their comfort zone, break them to the point that is almost that is practically impossible for many of us to even survive.

People say fauji's get perquisites, good salary and family protection.

But is that enough?

Then I saw my mom ironing her uniform. The smile on her face was not like I have ever seen before. I didn't really understand what that smile thought. The next day she took me to her office, every one had their uniforms on. And though they all hailed from geographically different places, background, they all had one thing in common. Their faces, they had this proud smile. I have seen them in casuals, smiling. But with their uniforms on, they were the saviors, THE PROUD SAVIORS.

No, it's not the perquisites or the salary or the medical benefits for the family that motivates them. It's the respect that comes with it. The sense of pride and the willingness for selfless deed.

We salute the Indian Army.
