            BY SANJAY YADAV

ACT I

[Once upon a time, there was a small village. In that village, a man and his wife lived in a small hut. Both of them worked as farmers. Their names were Raj and Preeti. They did not get proper food, clean drinking water, or enough money to live comfortably.]

Scene I

[Morning time. Raj is sleeping on the bed while his wife Preeti is working in the kitchen.]

Preeti: Raj, wake up.

Raj: Yes, I am coming.

[Raj gets down from the bed.]

Preeti: Raj, why are you sleeping so much?

Raj: Sorry, Preeti. I have become very weak, that’s why I could not wake up early.

Preeti: Okay, go and brush your teeth.

Raj: Okay.

Preeti: Come fast before the breakfast
 becomes cold.

Raj: Yes, I will come quickly.

Scene II

[Raj finishes brushing and returns to the table for breakfast.]

Preeti: Raj, have you finished brushing your teeth?

Raj: Yes, I have finished brushing.

Preeti: Okay, sit for breakfast. I will bring the food for you.

Raj: Bring it fast. I am very hungry now.

Preeti: Just wait for one minute.

Raj: Okay.

Scene III

[Preeti brings breakfast for Raj.]

Preeti: Raj, breakfast is ready.

Raj: Bring it quickly.

Preeti: The breakfast is ready. Now eat your food.

Raj: Wow, Preeti! The breakfast is very tasty.
You have magic in your hands.

Preeti: Thank you, Raj.

Raj: Can you bring me some more, please?

Preeti: Yes, sure.

Raj: Thank you, Preeti.

Preeti: Finish your breakfast and go to work in the field.

Raj: Yes. There is a lot of work in the field, and I also want to meet my friend about some work.

Preeti: Okay.

ACT II

[After finishing breakfast, Raj gets ready to go to work in the field.]

Scene I

Raj: Now I am going to work in the field.

Preeti: Okay, but go carefully.

Raj: Yes, Preeti, I will go carefully.

[As Raj walks out of the house, he kisses Preeti on the cheek.]

Preeti: Raj, what are you doing?

Raj: Why? Can’t I kiss my wife?

Preeti: But someone might see us.

Raj: Who will see us?

Preeti: Raj, don’t waste your time here.

Raj: Okay. Bye, Preeti.

Preeti: Bye, Raj.

Scene II

[When Raj reaches the field, he sees his friend Ram standing near the farm.]

Raj: Ram, how are you?

Ram: Hi, Raj. I am fine.

Raj: Why are you standing here?

Ram: Nothing. I am just standing here like this.

Raj: Oh.

Ram: Raj, I want to talk to you about something.

Raj: Tell me, Ram.

Ram: Listen carefully, Raj. You are working very hard in this field, but still you are not getting enough money. I think you should go to the city for work. In the city, both you and Preeti can live more peacefully. Here in the village, you only work hard in the fields and still get nothing. If both of you move to the city, you can earn money and support your family properly.

Raj: Yes, you are right. But I cannot leave this village and my field. I am deeply connected to farming and agriculture.

Ram: Look, I know the condition of this village, that’s why I am saying this. But the decision is yours.

Raj: Okay. I will discuss it with my wife, and then I will inform you.

Ram: Okay, take your time.

Scene III

[It is evening time. Raj returns home after completing his work in the field.]

Preeti: Raj, have you come back?

Raj: Yes.

Preeti: What happened, Raj?

Raj: Nothing.

Preeti: No, there is something. You are hiding it from me.

Raj: I want to talk to you, Preeti.

Preeti: Yes, tell me, Raj.

Raj: Today, when I went to the field for work, I met my friend Ram. He suggested that I should go to the city for work. He also said that the condition of this village is not good for us. That’s why I do not understand what to do. Should I go to the city or stay in this village?

Preeti: I think your friend is right.

Raj: But I cannot leave this village and my agricultural fields.

Preeti: I know that you are deeply connected to this village and your fields.

Raj: But where will I get money from?

Preeti: I have an idea. Can we sell our agricultural fields to someone?

Raj: But

Preeti: Listen. You know how much we are struggling even for basic needs. If we move to the city, we can earn money and live a better life.

Raj: Yes, you are right. Okay, then I will sell my agricultural fields to someone. But there may still be some money problems, so I may need to borrow money from someone.

Preeti: Good. Don’t worry about anything now.

ACT III

[The next morning, Raj goes to work in the field.]

Scene I

Raj: Where is Ram? Today he has not come to the field. I will call him.

Ram: Hello.

Raj: Hello, Ram. This is Raj speaking.

Ram: Yes, Raj. Tell me.

Raj: Why did you not come to the field today?

Ram: I have some work at home. What happened? Is there any problem?

Raj: Yes, I want to talk to you about something personally.

Ram: Okay, I am coming.

Scene II

[Ram reaches the field.]

Ram: What happened, Raj?

Raj: Let’s sit somewhere. It is very hot here.

Ram: Okay, come. Let’s sit.

Raj: Yesterday, you told me that I should go to the city for work.

Ram: Yes, I remember.

Raj: Last night, I spoke with my wife, and both of us decided that we will go to the city.

Ram: Good. Don’t worry about anything. Go happily and start a new life there.

Raj: But I do not have enough money to go to the city.

Ram: Don’t worry. You can borrow money from me.

Raj: No, I cannot take money from you. I have decided to sell my agricultural fields to someone.

Ram: Okay, then do one thing. You can sell your agricultural fields to me, and I will give you money.

Raj: Really? Thank you so much for helping me.

Ram: It is my pleasure.

Scene III

[After their conversation, Raj sells his agricultural fields to Ram.]

Raj: The papers are ready for selling my agricultural fields.

Ram: Have you brought all the papers for the land?

Raj: Yes, these are the papers.

Ram: Okay. Take the money.

Raj: Thank you.

Ram: Now you can go to the city without any problem.

[After selling his agricultural fields, Raj returns home.]

Preeti: Raj, have you come back?

Raj: Yes. I have already sold my agricultural fields.

Preeti: Okay, but to whom did you sell them?

Raj: To my friend, Ram.

Preeti: Good.

Raj: Now pack your bags. Tomorrow, we will go to the city.

Preeti: Okay. Can I serve lunch for you?

Ram: Yes. But where is Raj?

Preeti: He is in the washroom brushing his teeth.

Ram: Okay.

[Raj comes out of the washroom.]

Raj: Hi, Ram. When did you come?

Ram: Just now.

Raj: Come and sit down.

Ram: Yes, sure.

Raj: Preeti, please make tea for him.

Preeti: Yes, of course.

Ram: No thanks. I already had tea at home.

Raj: Okay.

Ram: Are you ready to go to the city?

Raj: Yes, we have already packed our bags.

Ram: Don’t worry about anything. Just go freely without any tension.

Raj: Yes.

Ram: So, when are you leaving?

Raj: This evening.

Ram: Okay.

Scene III

[Raj and his wife Preeti are ready to leave the village.]

Ram: Come, give me your bags.

Raj: We are going to the bus stand.

Ram: No need. I already called a taxi for both of you.

Raj: But why?

Ram: This is the last time I am meeting my friend before he leaves the village. That’s why I called the taxi.

[Raj hugs Ram emotionally.]

Ram: Raj, don’t become too emotional.

Raj: Please take care of my house.

Ram: Sure. Look, the taxi has arrived.

Raj: Preeti, go and sit inside the taxi.

Preeti: Okay

Raj: Okay, bye. Take care.

Ram: Bye. You also take care. When you reach the city, call me.

Raj: Sure.

Preeti: Okay.

Raj: When I went to rent the house, I met a man. He told me that there is a job available in the morgue at a hospital. My work will be to take care of dead bodies.

Preeti: Raj, please sit for breakfast.

Raj: Okay, bring it quickly.

Preeti: Just wait for one minute.

Preeti: Oh no! What happened to me?

[At that moment, a couple arrives near the house.]

Woman: Did you hear some sound?

Man: Yes. Let’s go inside and check.

Woman: Okay, let’s go.

[They enter the house and see Preeti lying on the kitchen floor covered in blood.]

[The couple explains everything to Raj.]

Man: We heard a strange sound coming from your house. When we went inside, we saw Preeti lying on the kitchen floor covered in blood. Then we immediately called the ambulance and brought her here.

Raj: I already told her many times to work slowly, but she never listened to me.

Doctor: Don’t worry. We will examine her properly and tell you what happened.

[Raj stands silently near Preeti, looking worried and frightened.]

ACT VI

[The doctor examines Preeti carefully and decides to admit her to the ICU.]

Scene I

Doctor: She has many injuries on her body.

Raj: Okay, so what should we do now, doctor?

Doctor: We need to admit her to the ICU immediately. Her condition is serious.

Raj: Okay, doctor. Please save her.

[The two men secretly take Preeti toward the morgue room.]

First Man: Look, this is the morgue room.

Second Man: Good. Put her on the bed quickly.

[Suddenly, Preeti slowly regains consciousness.]

Preeti: Who are you? What are you doing?

But this morning, she was missing from the ICU room, and her husband was also missing from the morgue room where he worked.
Police Officer: What are the names of both of them?

Doctor: Their names are Preeti and Raj.

Police Officer: Okay. First, let us check the morgue room.

Doctor: Okay, sir.

[The police officers, doctor, and nurse walk nervously toward the dark morgue room.]

Police Officer: What are your names?

First Man: I do not know anything.

Police Officer: So you are pretending that you know nothing?

Second Man: Why should we say anything? We did nothing wrong.

Police Officer: Oh, really? We already have evidence against both of you.

First Man: What evidence?

Police Officer: You both secretly entered the hospital during midnight. You tried to harm Preeti inside the morgue room. When her husband Raj saw you, you attacked him. After that, both of them disappeared from the hospital. We also found evidence hidden inside the morgue.

[Both men become nervous and remain silent.]

Police Officer: Speak the truth now. Hiding the truth will only make things worse for you.

[The inspector places investigation files and photographs on the table.]

Police Officer: We found fingerprints, witness statements, and hospital evidence. Now tell us the truth. Why did you attack Raj and Preeti?

Second Man: Sir… I will tell the truth.
Police Officer: Good. Start speaking.

Second Man: We entered the hospital during midnight and saw Preeti alone in the ICU. We secretly took her to the morgue room because we thought nobody would notice us there. Suddenly Raj came inside the room and saw us. We became scared that he would inform the police. During the fight, everything went out of control.

Police Officer: So both of you are confessing to the crime?

First Man: Yes… we made a terrible mistake.

[The police officers record their statements while the inspector looks seriously at both criminals.]

Police Officer: Don’t worry. We just want to show you something there.

Second Man: But sir

Police Officer: Come with us quietly.

[The police officers take both criminals back to the dark hospital morgue.]

Police Officer: So, how does this morgue room feel now?

First Man: It looks normal, sir.

Police Officer: Good. Now I want to show you two dead bodies.

Second Man: Which dead bodies, sir?

Police Officer: Just wait for a moment.

[After some time, the nurse and hospital staff bring the evidence containers
 connected to the investigation.]

Police Officer: Now look carefully. Do both of you recognize these dead bodies?

First Man: No, sir.

Police Officer: Don’t worry. I will tell you their names. These are Raj and Preeti  the same innocent couple whose lives were destroyed in this morgue room.

[As soon as both criminals hear the names of Raj and Preeti, they become shocked and frightened.]

Second Man: Sir… please…

First Man: Yes, sir…

Police Officer: You finally accepted your crime.

Second Man: Sir, please forgive us. We will never do anything like this again.

Police Officer: The law will decide your punishment now.

First Man: Sir, we are really sorry.

Police Officer: Sorry cannot bring innocent people back to life.

[Suddenly, both criminals panic and try to escape from the morgue room.]

Second Man: Let’s run away from here.

Police Officer: Stop them! Don’t let them escape!

[The criminals run through the hospital corridor while police officers chase them.]

Police Officer: Stop immediately!

[The criminals continue running despite repeated warnings. During the chase, police officers stop them after the escape attempt.]

Police Officer: Doctor, arrange to send the bodies to their family members.

Doctor: Sorry, sir. Both of them do not have any close family members in the city.

Police Officer: Oh, okay. Do they have any friends or relatives in the village?

Doctor: Yes, Raj had one close friend named Ram who lives in the village.

Police Officer: Okay. Give me his phone number.

Doctor: Sure, sir.

[The police officer contacts Ram by phone.]

Ram: Hello.

Police Officer: Hello. Is this Ram speaking?

Ram: Yes. Who is speaking?

Police Officer: I am Inspector Sharma speaking from the police station.

Ram: Yes, sir. Is there any problem?

Police Officer: Do you know a man named Raj and his wife Preeti?

Ram: Yes, sir. They are my close friends.

Police Officer: I am sorry to inform you… both of them have died.

Ram: What? No… how is that possible?

Police Officer: During the investigation, we discovered that some criminals attacked them inside the hospital morgue. The criminals were later arrested by the police.

Ram: Oh God… Raj and Preeti…

Police Officer: We are sending their bodies back to the village.

Ram: Okay, sir…
