Standing and Working
Standing and Working
As I sat down for my work today, I remembered a suggestion my manager had made in a team meeting in the past.
With the drastic change in the way we work due to the Covid impact, most of us feel the difficulty that comes with sitting in one place for extended periods of time. Especially for those working in the IT sector. Despite taking short breaks and doing some stretches it just doesn't entirely solve the issue.
My manager shared what he heard in a meeting he attended. He suggested that we "stand and work for a while during the day" or even buy a standing desk if it is feasible.
Following the suggestion, today I tried standing while I was attending my own meetings. Since I am only listening and not even seen, it did not affect my quality of attendance. When it was my turn to talk, I spoke. That's about it. Out of the 8 hours of work, I did my work while standing for nearly 3 hours.
The exercise is new but not difficult. It really helps to keep one attentive too. I know I am going to continue to use this mix of sit /stand mode of work more often.
How about you? Do you have alternate/creative ways of handling this?
