MY HIGH SCHOOL MEMOIR

During the year 1974, I was a student of Class. X in OTMHS Choudwar once I had a good experience which I feel appropriate to pen down for the knowledge of modern youngsters of 21st Century. I now remember those bygone days with much delight as they create positivity in my mind at my sexagenerian age.

All of our teachers were very efficient and idealistic under the moral administration of our honorable Headmaster late Baba Baidyanath Padhy. All episodes cannot be narrated here except one i. e. about our Late Gayadhar Majhi who was teaching us maths, geography, MIL(Odia), and sports. He was also a good athlete and vegetarian.

That was the period of my adolescence and full of enthusiasm. Since the beginning of my students' career I was accustomed to segregated education wherefore I could not know the efficacy of coeducation. One day our late Majhi Sir was teaching us MIL poetry. His special process of teaching was that he always posed and artistic action in the Odia poetry classes. That day the topic was "Shakuntala " kabya i. e. the romantic love affairs of the king Dushmant and Shakuntala inside the forest beside the hermitage of Maharshi Kanwa.

I was completely attentive to the subject taught by Majhi Sir. During our time moral teaching and character building were the most prominent part of education. Always our guardians and teachers were guiding us in this regard with strict advice. As a result of which we had been cherishing moral fear even to talk to any girl classmate or any damsel before marriage whereas touching the opposite sex was a dream in our students' life. In our OTM High School, my section was always B wherein not a single girl student was available. In class X, A, and B sections were combined when all the girls of Section A grouped with us. But nowadays our younger generation is unknown about this vital point while maintaining their students-career. However, let us come to the topic.

I was so moved by the coaching of late Majhi Sir that I let my mind wander spontaneously in a romantic atmosphere and suddenly my attention was driven to a girl classmate who had most beautifully decorated herself with ribbons and sophisticated hairstyles without any use of cosmetics. During that time cosmetics were rarely used by the girl students or any lady for the sake of their health. All of our girl classmates were preferring natural beauty rather than artificial beauty.

My eyesight was unable to retreat and at once heard a big shout of our Majhi Sir, " Hey Avdhoot what happened to you today, you have at all no attention to your study. You are so absent-minded that I observe you for near about ten minutes. You have been staring at Ms. X. I will tell your father must. Be careful and remember that " Teens are Dangerous " which means the pubertal age from the beginning of 13 to the end of 19 years is a most crucial and important period of a student which reflects in his future life. So any moral shortcomings can divert the mind of students from the study for which his or her career may become jeopardized and future may be dark." Then I stood up from my seat and apologized," Yes Sir please pardon me. I will never look at any girl students hence forward I will sincerely remember your advice until I complete my career Sir. Please don't tell my dad. " OK, I won't. But be careful from now on. Because a bright future is waiting for you. Never falter on the way. A dear boy may God bless you. " retorted our Majhi Sir and finished his class.

Now I am a senior citizen. By virtue of the teachings & blessings of our late elders and superiors only I have achieved our individual social status in the long run. Sometimes my grandchildren enquire about my past evergreen stories and I tell them only positive ones. I always give them moral advice to avoid the use of android mobile sets unnecessarily except in an emergency. Also, I put up the ideal of our respected and beloved late Gayadhar Majhi Sir with the maxim TEENS ARE DANGEROUS before them. Really our student's career was so charming and delightful without the use of mobile phone and television set and internet that is unforgettable till date. Though such a golden era may not return some of the golden flowers plucked by us from that paradise must be presented to our ensuing generation up to eternity.
