      ECHOES OF MAYURBHANJ DYNASTY

It is a story dating back to a century when Late Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo, the King of Mayurbhanj was।? active in his domain. At that time Mayurbhanj district of Odisha was full of dense forests. Most of the people belonged to the tribal community. There were many wild Royal tigers too. Often some of them were turning to maneaters under the circumstances.

Once a maneater royal tiger was active in full swing in Jashipur area. The local villagers informed the king. So the king went to the spot with his gun and a sword. The villagers  showed him the dead body of the tiger's victim. Some portion of the body was eaten by the tiger. Then king ordered to build a machan on a banyan tree which was instantly carried out by the village headman. The king sat on it awaiting  the tiger's arrival to the corpse. 

One night passed. But the killer did not return. 

Tiger was very cunning. It was lurking beside the bushes about 100 metres away from the tree.  It's target was the king. On the morning his Majesty got down from the tree and stood. Suddenly king marked the tilting of the long leaves of the bushes. His Majesty was cocksure that it was the tiger. Suddenly the tiger came out from the bushes and leaped on the king. But His Majesty unsheathed his

Talwar instantly and cut off the head of the leaping tiger. His Majesty was so skilled in sword fighting that at a moment tiger's severed head fell down on the ground. It's body was shaking and bloodstained.

After some time tiger was dead. His Majesty stood on the tiger's  body and his photo was taken by one of his attendants. His Majesty, Maharaja late Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo was extraordinarily a glorified son of Utkal Janani {Utkal ( Odisha ) Janani ( Mother ) whose benevolent and generous deeds have made numerous people of the state indebted to him. We are and our future generations must be immensely

proud of having such a diamond personality up to eternity.
