Meek

Ethan made towards the opened classroom and walked in quietly. That's how he used to do. He never wants his voice to be heard neither did he wants to be recognized. 

He is classified as meek. He did never talk and didn't seek to be talked to. At times, the teachers in the school thought he is probably dumb.

Today was very different. A new student was brought to the school. She is the daughter of the richest man in the community, Chief Braxton. Everybody wants to talk with Iris, but not Ethan. Iris always loves the fact that people flock around her. She seems to be enjoying the scenario until she saw Ethan who was quietly sitting at the far end of the class. She moved slowly and headed to where he was with others staring in awe.

"Hi! I'm Iris." She introduced smiling broadly at him. Ethan didn't seem moved. He just doesn't want to talk to anybody. He knew sooner or later, she is going to hate him. Just like others. Iris left disappointed. But she never stops looking back just to glance at him till the end of the class wondering what kind of human would be refused to talk to a girl like her.

When the short break pulled in, all other students rushed out to play and Iris stayed behind in the class with Ethan at the back, not moving. She stood up once more and went to him.

"Hi! I'm Iris. I want to befriend you." She blurted out.

Yet, Ethan did not answer.

When the school closed for the day, he headed home. 

Iris tracked his house down and beseeched her father to bring the boy to their doorstep. When Ethan was brought, he was very angry.

"I only want to befriend you, Ethan." She persuaded. 

"I don't need friends." He said at last through his clenched teeth. Iris was disappointed. 

Later, she found out he was living with his grandmother. Whenever Ethan is out, Iris will bring enough food and money for the old woman and she will joyously show it to Ethan when he comes. Soon, Ethan and his grandmother were chanting the praise of this invincible helper.

It wasn't long enough for Ethan to realized that Iris had been feeding him and his grandmother for the past three months. 

Today, he didn't walk through the back door as usual. He entered through the front door and went straight to where Iris was sitting with the class staring unbelievably. 

"I will like to befriend you, Iris." He said smiling broadly.

Everyone was surprised. That will be the first time they will hear his voice, loud and clear.
