Locked Down in the Cleanup

Locked Down in the Cleanup

Our house was a dirt bag, to put it plainly. Aunt claimed that the house hadn’t been cleaned since the spring clean-up and that we needed to deep clean it. Again. Uncle, of course, made more mess. I seriously am so surprised with aunt. She knows what happens when we do something big and we still get all the tasks. So let’s see what uncle did today.

I was trying to find my favorite board game, so I could beat Tamara at it again. Suddenly, the wobbly pile of toys fell down, taking my glasses with them. I got scared. They were super expensive, and I was as blind as a bat without them. Tamara walked in and said, “Rachel, now will you take my suggestion about wearing contact lenses instead of those nerdy glasses?” She got a face full of glitter for that comment. Aunt walked in and saw the mess. “Percy now you HAVE to clean the mess. This is the fourth pair of glasses Rachel lost in one week because of the mess. I just can’t keep buying her glasses.” “Just buy her contact lenses instead. Then we don’t have to worry about the mess.” He turned to walk away and slammed straight into a pile of books. “Maureen get me a broom. No one in this house cares about the cleaning. I’ll have to do it myself.” We rolled our eyes at him and got on to our work

The first thing we had to do was dusting, and getting randomly out of place objects into random places. For that, we had to dust those random places. So I and Pepper dusted the furniture, while uncle and Tamara put the things on shelves. Aunt Maureen took charge of scrubbing the mess and we all had to mop and vacuum together.

The first thing I noticed after picking up the duster, was that it was covered in baby food. I guess when we got too lazy to do the laundry, we began to use random pieces of cloth as handkerchiefs. So I took Tamara’s only white top, and cut it up to use as a duster. What? She called me a nerd. I’ve gotta get my revenge in some way. Pepper agrees with me.

We dusted the furniture and went to see how the others were doing. The first person we saw was Aunt Maureen, who had done a good job cleaning the countertops. Well, then again, it was the only job she had to do alone. Of course, it would be done okay. Tamara had only moved her makeup kit, from its shelf to her vanity table, and was using it. Uncle had just randomly tossed all the stray objects into the shelves and was sleeping on the floor. Aunt did all the rearranging while Pepper mopped the carpets, and brushed the floor. I cleaned the stairs.

After a while uncle woke up and was greeted with a toilet brush and plunger. The only job left was his. He went into the bathroom and began to clean. The first thing was the mirror which was already clean. Then came the bathtub, where Tyson was taking a bath. The lavatory pan uncle refused to clean. All that was left was the floor. Uncle poured water on it and then walked out of the bathroom. “I’m done,” he announced. “I’ll go clean up the mess he made,” aunt whispered to us, then went into the bathroom.

Half an hour later, she came out, drenched to the bone, and sneezing. “What happened,” we all clamored. “Tyson was taking a bath, and he splashed me. To top it all off, the only thing Percy did was toss water on the floor, on which I slipped.” Then she went to the room, and we could hear the sound of the mattress groaning as she plopped down on it. Uncle had ‘mysteriously’ vanished after aunt came out of the bathroom. I wonder where his hiding place is. Probably the garden shed. Aunt hates it down there. But not as much as the basement. Maybe that’s where uncle and Nico (Our dog) hides when aunt gets mad. And now I shudder to think that next week we have to clean the pool. Oh please, please let this lockdown end soon!
