Live debate. 

                 Domination of government television channel so called Doordharshan get reduced as there were many private television channels opened in the country after launch of communication satellite by India . There were many regional channels which used to telecast the program in regional languages. Since it was a very powerful live media channel which had direct impact on the viewers. Therefore all types regional programs were being used to telecast on the private channels to attract more and more viewers. More viewers indicates more television rating point for television channel popularly known as TRP. More TRP means more popularity of the channel. Then there would be more advertisements on channel which brought huge source of income to the channel. It was a costmary of media that In the end of May or in first week of June. All most all the channels would arrange live debate on south-west monsoon long range forecast and its behavior every year in regional and national languages.

              There was live debate arranged by the “SAM “Television on south-west monsoon as per its scheduled. Since this live debate was on monsoon in regional language i.e. in Marathi. The authority had taken the decision to send a meteorologist who knew Marathi language as well as depth knowledge of monsoon on their request. Regular authorized forecasters were able to participate either in Hindi or in English. Other participants in the live debate would to talk in regional language, Marathi. They were from agriculture, astrology, disaster and other activist in the subject whose mother tongue was Marathi. The debate manager would conduct the live debate in Marathi for regional masses. There was an officer who would speak Hindi, English as well as Marathi. He used to tackle all these media persons in the absence of regular media compendium. He was called by authority in this matter. Authority discussed the matter with him ins and outs. As it was the golden chance for him to attend the live debate for the first in his career. He loaded for bear. No sooner had authority ordered him than he obeyed the order. He didn’t take with a pinch of salt as it was pig’s fly. He prepared himself for the live debate as desperate time calls for desperate measures. He discussed various points with the authority as stitch in time saves nine. Authority instructed strictly him that he shouldn’t be go out of track and shouldn’t predict any extra-ordinary things which would be controversial in future. He assured him to follow his instructions as the boss was as right as rain.   

                 He saw him eye to eye. He made preparation for debate as per requirements. Besides this, he also talked with regular forecasters who were linked with media persons having a lot of experience in this field. He was very excited to participate in the debate. When he retired from the preparation of live debate ,then he informed about scheduled time of live debate to his friends as well as relatives. When there was scheduled time of debate, then he reached to the local television office of the channel. He himself introduced with officers as well as staff of television studio. They welcomed him. Rest of the participants would join the debate from their respective cities like him. One of the skilled parson took him to setup cabin for live debate in the studio. Since it was his first chance to participate in the live debate, he inquired about all the technical things and how to use all equipments time to time. Concerned staff from channel unit asked him to occupy the chair which was very heighted than normal chair. It might be the requirement of the setup. There was a long table after chair. There was big video screen at second end of the table. He briefed him all things and place a glass of water in front of him. staff switched off all the light in the cabin leaving him alone. First step is the hardest. He was cold feet for a while just before the commencement of debate as it was his first live debate and mounting pressure of boss and viewers. Since He was mentally prepared and excited for the debate, he gathered his confidence soon.

          Longest miles is the home mile. Debate manager started the debate by well coming the all participants introducing one by one to viewers and other participants. Firstly he put up the views of all of audiences and his experience on the debate subject. He started with agriculture how the monsoon would be important to agriculture sector in the country and it’s impact on Indian economy. He first invited the concerned participant to put his views. Since it wasn’t either political or religious debate , no participant interfered in debate unless and until debate manager asked him to put his counter views about said views of the concerned participant. It was the healthy and strong debate on subject. Debate manager asked so many questions to the respective participants one by one. He used to answer them as per guide line of the respective departments. There were three to four occasions, when question was asked to participant of meteorology department from his questionnaire. There was general complaint about forecast of weather about it’s accuracy. He explained about the accuracy of forecast and realized weather would be always more than 90 percent as all type of issued forecasts were verified from the realized weather. There was scientific audit for it’s rechecking. There was a Confusion among the end users to understand the weather forecast. Department used to issue the forecast for whole region which is in it’s jurisdiction. The forecaster would cover all possible events, its area of occurrence ,amount of rainfall ,intensity and probability of occurrence in the region. So there would be a special type of language used to tell probability of occurrence of weather, covering area and its intensity. Whenever every end user would hear about the forecast, then he assumed that weather event would be going to happen on his head only. The terminology used in forecast would have its particular meaning whose meaning was given in footnote at end of issued forecast in it’s website. He put the second question whether the Indian technology as equivalent as developed countries. He replied that We had satellite, Radar and numerical weather predication system of our own. We are master in prediction of cyclone and long range monsoon forecast. We are the regional boss in Asia to aid many countries in predication of cyclone in the area as world meteorological organization empowered for it. Other participants also kept their views on best services provided to them by the department in recent years. We would plan our activities as per warnings and guidelines of the department for rendering our services to the fellow countrymen. The discussion was ended with healthy remark on the intricate language of weather forecasting which would not be easily understand by the end user due to lack of knowledge. The forecaster would use such language to give more information about prevailing weather in the whole region in brief to it’s end user. Once everybody able to understand the meaning meteorological terminology used in the forecast as per footnote ,there would not be any confusion among the end users.
