"How do you know it's love?" I remember asking somebody when I was younger. They told me about having butterflies in the pit of your stomach, of your heart beating out of control, of electric sparks and instant connections and I, for a long time searched for love in feelings similar.

It took me long enough to realise love could be as simple as comfort, feeling safe with a person without all the drama, of being listened to without judgement. Love could be that which makes your heart beat slower, and calm you down after waves of panic attacks. Love could be subtle, simple and easy to be with.

So every evening, I would walk across the road to your house and have conversations with you without thinking twice. You will talk about your day and me mine, how I hate my job and how you love yours and we will each drink a can of beer in honour of a day that went by okay. We could occasionally cook, read each other books and talk about exhaustion without ever finding a solution. We could calm ourselves through numerous breakdowns, sit side by side in silence for occasional waterworks and lull each other to sleep with soothing words and lullabies. We could be each other's sanctuaries, secret safes. We could be all that we couldn't be, for each other.

Know that My heart beats slower when I am with you. Maybe I am finally at peace with the person I am. Maybe I am finally not worried about what's going to happen. Maybe I am finally home, with you.
