Her
Her
Standing as an estranged couple
Him: Hi
Her: Hi
Him: Go to the bathroom.
Her: Why
Him: Because I said so
Her: You say anything
Him: And you should listen.
Her: Okay then. I’m going.
Him: How was it
Her: Refreshing.
Him: Liar. You didn’t get anything.
Her: Yeah, but now what am I supposed to say?
Him: You can go.
Her: Where? Why is this so confusing? Can’t you talk straight?
Him: What do you want from me?
Her: Love
Him: Then, you have that. I love you.
Her: It doesn’t seem like it.
Him: Because you can’t understand it. Love is not something you can understand.
Her: Then you go to hell.
Him: Wow. (laughs sardonically) Your understanding is more important than my feelings. Than everything that my intentions tried to do for you, huh?
Her: You don’t get to say a thing about me. I longed for you with my whole soul but… (sighs) There is no way I am settling for you and your attitude. Just get lost.
Him: I am. That’s what I am going to do. I am going. Forever. Would be the best. For you, me, us, this world. No need to light flames unnecessarily. There is nothing between us as it is – only tension. We can live without each other surely.
Her: Yeah, it’s not like you are the energy and I am the body, it’s more like you are impatience and I am the body.
Him: (with emphasis) I am the body and you are the impatience.
Her: (Scoffs and turns around, starts to walk away)
Him: (His thoughts say “don’t go”, he looks with longing, such longing that he isn’t able to look away. He will watch her till he can’t see anything.)

Work
Her: Hey Melanie. How’s the show coming up?
Friend/colleague: It’s great, Deborah. How’s your new boyfriend?
Her: Plain, old boring. Just need to pretend I have someone in this sad existence of mine.
Friend/colleague: Girlll, you need to stop it. Just be with yourself and your heart. At this rate, you’re going to harm yourself.
Her: Good thing I’m going to die one day.
Friend/colleague: (Sighs but laughs)
A few hours later-
Friend/colleague: Malcolm came in to say he is letting a few people go. Would you like to be one of them?
Her: How could I, Melanie?
Friend/colleague: You hate this work, just go, and sleep at home. Take the chance, make an excuse, do something for your real self once in this goddamn life.
Her: It seems you’re talking more about you than me, aren’t you?
Friend/colleague: Maybe. But aren’t we supposedly one, written by the same author, just playing different characters? Our soul is one.
Her: I’ll go.
Friend/colleague: Where?
Her: Home.

Grocery store
Her: It seems there’s no powder left on the shelves.
Store attendant: Yeah, we’re tired of the sales.
Her: Huh? (confused) You mean they’re great, right? Shouldn’t you be happy?
Store attendant: Money doesn’t make you happy.
Her: Sure does, when you need it desperately.
Store attendant: Desperation is a sign of neediness. And when someone doesn’t need you they make you feel needy.
Her: What are you even saying?
Store attendant: Do you want the powder or what?
Her: (With shame and awkwardness) Huh, no.
Store attendant: (mumbles) So much talk for nothing.

A public space with lot of people around
Him: Hey, you.
Her: You?! (shock, surprise, bewilderment, confusion)
Him: What a surprise, right?
Her: You never lost your charm. (Rolls eyes and looks away)
Him: Why can’t you just…
Her: What, you still want to fight after all these years? Grow up.
Him: Your words speak for you.
Her: God, the riddles!
Him: You always said you loved riddles, a little mystery, and some…
Her: Enough. (Starts to walk away)
Him: Got a new boyfriend?
Her: (rolls eyes and ignores him)
Him: Tell him and every one of the others that they won’t last if I make a move. I am what owns that heart. (Points at her)
(She runs, sobbing.)
-
Her: I hate him, I hate him, I HATE HIM!
Friend/colleague: But you don’t.
Her: Yeah, I don’t and that’s what I hate about him. He’s selfish, conceited, one hell of an egoistic man… (sniffles)
Friend/colleague: And you can’t help but love him.
Her: What am I supposed to do?
Friend/colleague: Nothing. You can’t change a thing.
Her: Why? Why don’t I have control?
Friend/colleague: Because you’re also the one who has absolute control.
Her: I don’t understand.
Friend/colleague: You were never supposed to.
-
Her: Go away.
Him: To where? The Netherlands?
Her: You are a heathen.
Him: What? I’m an engineer.
Her: Shut up.
Him: You know I won’t.
Her: Is this going to be my life forever?!
Him: You know it is. (smiling in a deranged manner)
Her: That’s not true.
Him: And that’s true too.
Her: God, I want to kill myself.
Him: Be my guest.
(Screams, bending forward, with her hands on her knees)
(Stands with his hands crossed, face neutral, watching her.)
