Better India: A dream

Naina, a 17 year old teenager...was extremely smart and conscious. She had knowledge on literally everything. Few days before India's 78th Independence Day, her class teacher- Mrs. Sheela, asked her to prepare a speech for the morning assembly of 15th August. She was preparing her speech, when, suddenly, some questions popped in her mind. She went to her teacher and told, "Ma'am I have almost finished writing my speech, but certain questions popped up in my mind. Will you please clarify them?"

Mrs. Sheela being like a motherly figure to her, said " Yes, sure! Feel free to ask any questions that you have in your mind."

To this Naina replied,

"Ma'am we always celebrate Independence Day by remembering the number of years before which India got Independent. But, I think, what's more important to celebrate is how much progress we have achieved throughout all social, economic ,financial, political aspects as an independent country since our Independence, rather than , celebrating the number of years we have crossed after achieving Independence.

It's been 78 years now that India got independent. But, seeing through certain situations raises a question in my mind, 'Have we really became Independent?'

Even after 78 years of Independence, women don't find it safe to work late in the office, to walk alone in the streets. They are scared that if they return home late or if they walk alone in the streets they may be raped, molested, killed.

Even after 78 years of Independence, there's not a proper system in our country to punish criminals involved in a heinous crime. As most criminals have a good connection with political leaders, they find it easy to escape from hands of the law even after commiting a sinful crime.

Even after 78 years of Independence, innocent people find it tough to get justice and need to go to court and lawyers numerous times to get justice served to them. On the other hand, rich influential people with huge money find it easy to escape even after being involved in a crime.

Even after 78 years of Independence, we still have political leaders who win elections by making false promises to people. And, as soon as they get elected, they forget all the promises they made to people before elections. Most of the tax that people pay to government are used in black marketing, cheat funds and other unnecessary stuffs whereas there's little to no improvement in education system, healthcare, defense.

Even after 78 years of Independence, there's still child trafficking, child abuse, sexual harassment, domestic violence prevailing in India with no actions being taken towards this crimes.

Is this a dream that our leaders saw for India while fighting for India's Independence?

I think it's high time we realize that how much important it is to focus on these things for a better future of India. "

Listening to her, Mrs. Sheela said, "Yes! It's really a dream for us to have a corruption free, peaceful, better India. Maybe, our generation couldn't fulfill the dreams of our leaders and freedom fighters of a better India. But, I hope our next generation will try and give their best in forming a better India, a India our freedom fighters dreamt of!! "
