An Unexpected Train Trip

Last year while going to my college in Bombay, I faced a lot of difficulties. I had set my alarm for the right time, but I overslept and didn’t hear the alarm. When I woke up, I found myself in a fix as only one hour was left for the train to depart. I took my entire luggage hastily and went to the station.

I ran inside the platform and rushed through the bustling crowd of people on the foot over the bridge and reached the platform. My train was about to depart and was gaining speed I ran as fast as I could and held one of the gate bars and came inside the train. As I entered the train, I started finding my seat when I realized that I had forgotten to buy the ticket at the station. I had seen jokes about how people pranked the ticket checkers, but this time it wasn’t funny, it was serious.

I was not used to this type of thing, but today I was feeling bad. I thought it would not be good for a citizen like me to hide and so I went to the ticket checker and told him what had happened and admitted my mistake. I knew I would have to pay double the fare and I was ready for that, but he turned up to be generous and told me that I can just pay the fare with some penalty.

I reached up to my pocket to find out that I had no money there. Now I felt very guilty. I remembered that I had left my wallet on the table when I rushed to the cab. I knew that I would now be sent to jail if I wouldn’t pay for the fare and penalty.

So, I thought quickly and came up with the idea of selling some of my stamps from my album to get money. I sold some stamps to the fellow passengers but I wasn’t willing to sell some of the rare ones, so after selling five or six stamps I thought of dancing and singing to get money. I did all this and got enough money to pay the fare and penalty. Well, though I did all this to get money, but I felt awful about all this.

Finally, I paid for the ticket fare with a penalty and reached Bombay. That train journey was very adventurous and I wish it never happens again. I also promise to never be forgetful ever again.
