Snakes and Ladders
Snakes and Ladders
The cycle keeps going on
And for once I wish it would stop for me to catch onto it
What I don’t understand is how it’s a cycle;
It’s more like snakes and ladders
Where you go up and up and up
And then fall down so unexpectedly.
You love and love and love
And then hurt for so long
It feels like eternity
Then you start to heal but never completely
Because you fall in love again
Still bruised
And the dried blood you’d hoped to wash away
An armour you wanted to never need.
It’s a beautiful beginning,
The first look like the roll of a dice
A six and you open your heart
You sit back
You watch him take the dice from your hand
You never stop him
Because there’s a trust that he will lead you to the end
To victory where love awaits.
So you close your eyes
Losing controls of your life
To hands that will first transcend you to heaven
And then through hell;
Did you expect him to walk with you?
Learn from your mistakes,
Learn to keep your heart safe,
That stranger in the street,
The bachelor in the bar,
The man in the next seat,
The one standing behind you,
They can never care for a heart that’s not theirs,
For they didn’t put it back together when it first fell
They don’t know all the stitches it has
They haven’t tasted the poison it drank
And they don’t have the love it asks.
This game has only one rule, darling-
Play at your own risk.
