Living In Hope
Living In Hope
She came to the seashore every day
Hoping against distant hope,
To see the sailor gone away,
Though she knew of no scope.
She felt it in her heart and mind,
The moment he left her behind,
It was a journey of no return,
But the flame of hope did burn.
The howling winds and the rising tide,
A sense of foreboding inside,
She pleaded with him not to leave
He would, her words, disbelieve.
The sailor in him, brash, confident,
Treating nature with contempt,
Driven by a sense of duty and purpose,
He waved her goodbye and blew her a kiss.
It was two years since he went his way,
She was back without fail every day
It was a ritual that couldn't be stopped
Her hope was on this frail hinge, propped.
A storm was brewing once again,
Reminiscent of that fateful day
Head held high, she'd face the gale
And any hurdles she would scale.
