IF THOU MUST LOVE ME
IF THOU MUST LOVE ME
If thou must love me....Well!
Then love me not like some lover from a Shakespearean play
Who words of love doth proudly spell
But his actions don't portray.
Nay; love me not like Bassanio
Who his friend's life did'st stake
Recognizes not his own true love
When a little disguise she makes.
Nay; love me not like Macbeth
Who stabbed the king for his throne
"She provoked me ", he shamelessly said
When mercy he himself should have shown
Nay; love me not like Othello
Who trusted not his wife
His inferiority complex held him low
When he stifled out her life.
Nay; love me not like Ferdinand
Who under a spell did'st love
Because in real life when such tempests end
Love flies out.... like from Noah's ark flew the dove
Nay; love me not like Romeo
Who secretly married Juliet
I'd rather have you face the world
And I'll be happy that we met.
So love me not like one from some story or a play
Let love be there deep in your heart and not for mere display
And let the love bells in my heart next when loudly chime
Sing of your clear transparent love that will last me a lifetime.
