Hold My Hand!!
Hold My Hand!!
When he first took her in his arms
She barely was a couple of pounds.
Wailing and crying. Then suddenly-
She gently held his finger and smiled.
Overwhelmed with a million emotions
Warm tears rolled down his cheeks.
He held her hands and taught her
To take the first steps of her life.
He held her hands when he told her stories
While he prepared her for life.
He held her hands while she slept
So nightmares stayed away from her.
Over the years their hands drifted apart
After all she had her own life
She had her friends, she had love.
She found a younger, stronger hand to hold.
He smiled happily. He smiled with love.
Her happiness made him happy.
Today he lay there cold for the last time,
As she cried, her tears fell on him.
Her warm tears rolled down his icy cheeks.
He wished only if he could tell her, "It's okay dear,
For you, I'll always be there." He wished -
For one last time if he could hold her hands.
