Gurubari, Valour Woman

There was participation of women in the struggle,

For our country's independence from British rule.

Freedom fighter and advocate for women's rights,

Fought against a raja in to end British rule as part. 

She was Gurubari Meher, think in the year 1947,

When women were abused by patriachal mentality.

In male domination, 20,000 freedom fighters, 

In Sonepur of Odisha state were led by her.

She without fear organised a mass movement,

It is named as "The Praja Mandal Movement".

The region was was ruled by prince, princely state,

Against the king she led such rightful movement.

In order to let loose a reign of terror at Binika,

For her anti-British stance, against a raja in India.

On 28 January 1947, Gurubari Meher was killed,

In fighting part of the struggle, British rule to end.

It is sad to say that very little is known about her,

Where the people rose in revolt against the king's rule.

Police resorted to baton charge, woman leader,

Of the movement was shot dead by the police.

Except a news item that had been published,

In 'Dainik Asha' from Sambalpur with the headline

 'Victory For the People Sonepur'.

It remains as the sole witness to her contribution,
