The person with whom many hands hold, enormous hearts beat,
Got love, centuries smiles, lifetime glee, having his familiarity vast.
He was a poet, song composer, author, playwright and painter,
Who painted the picture of society and the individual in literature.
On May 7, 1861, a person was born in Calcutta,
Rabindranath Tagore,
First non-European person to win the Nobel Prize for Literature
His patience is tested and love for humanity is tried,
Unique souls, shining lights, loving hearts for him are multiplied.
He is the person whose songs are used as the national anthem,
It is not one, but one can find in three country's anthem.
India’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’, Bangladesh’s anthem,
Tagore’s work in Bengali translated to
lyrics of Sri Lanka’s anthem.
‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ was also Tagore’s creation,
His energy and spirituality too, would always remain.
His foresight helped to produce numerous relatable emotions,
His writing also presented a mirror to society and that is looked upon.
He did not like the stereotypical set up of a school,
Was homeschooled, as he himself refused to go to any school.
His vision was realised through Vishwabharati University,
One can find wonderful experience from such a beauty.
He was an avid traveller Travelled 30 countries and more,
adapting foreign norms and spreading Indian culture.
Tagore was a contemporary of scientist Albert Einstein,
In 1930, the litterateur met the scientist at the latter’s house.
They both had a conversation about science, the divine,
And also the philosophy and nature of the universe.
His relation with Gandhi was of mutual respect and admiration,
Each other had contradiction, still he conferred title of Mahatma and father of the nation.
