A Long Road Ahead
A Long Road Ahead
It's a long road ahead
Lined by canopy of pines
Along flowers and thorns
Patches of green and barren lands
Full of bends
Diverging into different paths,
Without end
Drifting in all direction,
Leading to someplace far
Divulging new routes,
Revealing destinations where we all want to be
A path waiting to be traversed and to be claimed.
As I took the first step
Look behind, a voice whispered
To the established life, safe and of comfort
But I wasn’t listening to it
A far distant calling has held me captive
A far deeper touch has lurched the indolent exterior.
Settle here, a loud wail pierced through
Now the voice gaining strength
And as it did
The long road ahead began to disperse
Being replaced slowly by a wall;
Rising higher and higher
Obstructing, limiting my view.
It is dawn and I could see
A stunted yellow smirk on the face of sky
Like teasing me, allowing a fair glare
Yet every second I let go
It smudged farther and farther
Until it lies bare in the sky
Gleaming but too bright to lock eyes
And I stood amazed
Startled by its obvious presence.
Amidst the pull of old
And the bright sun above
It's a long road ahead, I gasped
But thrilled by the sound
Of my first step
I am eager to take more, muse and hear more
It's a long journey ahead, I restrained
My determination might break
My resolute, my anatomy would be tested
Looking above, I too smirked
And freeing myself from doubt
I depart.
