A Fire In Me

A Fire In Me

3 mins
171

In the fall of summer,

An angel came to visit.

She said "there is a fire in you and you will burn bright"

And of course I believed.

I was a small being of yet no importance.

Her words were treasure, her words were hope.

I became flattered by my destiny.

I became entranced, I was tranced.

The angel said no more,

She flew away and never came back.

But I, oh I never once looked behind.

I was a being of fire.

A fire in me she has said burned.

So I burned the fires around me.

Creating creation and chaos

During my time of run and turn.

Fire, she had said, is meant to turn things into ash.

It wages destruction and burns with a raging war.

In me, there was a war.

I was of importance, I knew that now.

But I felt little of that in me.

The deeper I went, the deeper I felt incomplete.

Fire, I was, so I burned brighter.

I tried harder, I went higher.

I soared, I soared.

Like the fire trying to meet the creator,

The sky in its way, the only thing separating from turning the whole world red with the hotness of its rage.

Like the fire, I kept burning.

My fuel, the coals of my ambitions and dreams

I kept on churning, more and more.

Ideas after ideas.

I kept on going.

I was fire, I was the being of destruction.

I was the being of creation.

I have to be more.

I can't be less.

If I am the fire, then my warmth has to spread.

I will burn bright, I will bring light.

I will bring warmth to the cold places hidden from plain sight.

I will be the fire which chases away any darkness inside.

Fire in me, take me.

Take me whole, leave nothing behind.

I wish to be more.

I cannot afford to be less.

I can't be an Icarius.

I cannot fall.

I have to fly with my wings attached,

I have to reach the sky.

I can't yet die.

Icarius believed himself great,

He feared no sun but fell in agape.

I, well I will be no Icarius.

If the sun might tempt me,

Then I will reach the moon instead.

The silvery cold of the moon will keep me safe.

When the fire in me,

Finally becomes so great

That it will burn, oh so great!

It will challenge the sun and fight to bring light.

I will burn brighter than Apollo's wrath.

I will be no Icarius,

I will not be treated as a cautionary tale.

You say, I will burn out and fail.

My wax wings, melting away.

Like the tears of all my desires, falling out of place.

Yet I won't.

I won't fall, because I will be brighter.

I will be warmer with desire to bring new creation to this place.

I am no Icarius and I will be no Apollo,

Destroying anyone who dares to reach my way.

I will be myself,

A someone, who has a fire inside,

That will bring warmth and light.

To this abandoned world.

Who has forgotten,

 The golden rays of light.

Shining through the darkness and gloom.

I will create fire, to not cause war but to create life.
