Day 9: Pink: A Widow's Fight

For many women, the death of a husband meant the end of life. Not allowed to wear bright colors, sit with family, show off long locks of hair or even simple ornaments. Parents consider them a burden. But not Nirmal Chandel from Himachal Pradesh. When she was widowed at the age of 23, she was outcasted by her own members.

Then, she decided to take things in her own hands, working as an accountant in an NGO for social upliftment. By working independently, she has managed to change lives of 16,000 widowed, single and divorced woman.

Such is the power of feminity on Day 9 of Navratri.
