The Yo-Yo Life

The Yo-Yo Life

"When you will be 80-year-old sitting on a rocking chair, will you be able to justify this decision of yours?" These words were from my friend Sam.

I was brought up in a simple and disciplined family. Life was going great, school and college life was always sorted. In my final year of engineering, I applied for campus placement and was lucky to get into an MNC in my first interview. My happiness knew no bounds when I got my job location as Andheri, the closest to my home. I had always dreamt of a perfect first day at the job and with that excitement, I went to meet the resource manager. However, the resource manager seemed quite surprised when I told him about my joining.

" Oh, there seems to be some miscommunication, we have hired you for our Bangalore location project requirement."

Being a fresher I did not know what to respond, the resource manager completed all his formalities and handed me my transfer letter. I had always been close to my home and family and leaving my stable life I had to move to Bangalore and create a new life. Will I be able to do it, with endless thoughts in my head I cried sitting near the trains window seat looking out of the window.

In a few days, I moved to Bangalore, was staying in a PG with colleagues. I had got the opportunity most developers dream of, working on the latest technology and having a great allowance but my mind was not at peace. I cried every night to bed, my home was where my heart was, I decided to quit and go back to Mumbai.

That's when my friend asked me, " When you will be 80-year-old sitting on a rocking chair, will you be able to justify this decision of yours?"

"You are leaving behind this opportunity to create something for yourself just because it's out of your comfort zone, you are going back to stability but do you think going a step behind is going to make life stable?"

I was speechless, he continued, " This location change is just one parameter, you know a small variable; with time variables will increase, you will grow old and your responsibilities toward work and family will increase and everything is going to add a new variable."

I had no answer to his question, I walked towards the window and looked outside. There was a little boy playing with a Yo-Yo. Life is a Yo-Yo, you cannot expect it to be stable and smooth; the sooner you accept this fact, the easier life becomes. That was the day I understood this, those words from my friend inspired me to rethink about my decision and made me the NEW ME who does not need stability and can take on anything that comes on the way.
