Chapter 11
Continued from chapter 10
Torn Between Two Worlds
Reba sat in the dimly lit her highly Decorative bedroom, the curtains drawn, casting a soft glow over the room. She had just finished putting her children to bed, their small frames curled up under the covers, oblivious to the turmoil that consumed her. With a heavy sigh, she turned her gaze to the bedside table, where a framed photograph of Abani smiled back at her, a constant reminder of the life they had built together.
It had been eleven months since Abani's passing, and the weight of her grief still threatened to overwhelm her. Yet, amidst the sorrow, there was a glimmer of something else – a forbidden desire that had taken root in her heart, one that she could no longer ignore with Rik. She doesn't want to lose Rik from their life for her and her children's future sake . she promised Abani in his deathbed and pratima devi , Riks mother when accepted their relationship
Rishabh, her beloved young nephew, had become now a constant presence in her life, his unwavering support and gentle touch a source of comfort during her darkest days. But their relationship had evolved, blossoming into a connection that went beyond the bounds of familial love. Reba knew that what they shared was wrong, a transgression against the very fabric of their society, and yet she found herself powerless to resist it. Rik now some days spent night in her house if she asks him
As if summoned by her thoughts, Rishabh's familiar footsteps echoed in the hallway, and Reba felt her heart quicken. He appeared at the doorway, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and longing. For some months together he didn't attempt to seduce her and took Reba in bed, in spite Reba didn't forbid him that and Reba assumed it is essential now for establishing physical intimacy with him to sustain their relationship for their security at least. Reba knows well Platonic love can not last long. Moreover, when RiK is young and has vigour,Reba has inner desire . Is Rik avoiding her for the sake of mousumi? Rik calls her now by her name and Reba allowed it when they are alone . Before others she is respected by mejo mami. Reba smiles
"Reba, are you alright?" he asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Reba offered him a weary smile, "I'm as well as I can be, Rik . The children are now asleep, and I was just...thinking about you. Are you tired of me &my love Rik? You lost interest to this family I hope "
Rishabh nodded, understanding the unspoken weight of her words. He moved closer, his hand reaching out to gently caress her cheek. "I'm here just for you, Reba. Always."
Reba leaned into his touch, savoring the warmth and comfort it brought. "I know, my love. But tell me what we are doing...is it right now? .I know you, a young man naturally has your physical demands. It is quite natural Rik. I'm now a widow woman of yours, Mejo Mama, I confess, I have physical needs too and I want it to be satisfied by you only like the others two days. you played so romantic with me.I confess _”Your mejo mamu could not ever satisfy my body urge as he often ended before my satisfaction and you could do that. You are much more romantic in bed. Your touch electrifies my body and it is true. I love you RiK but what about Moushumi, your lover who awaits you? We can't keep going down this path to deceive her and I don't want to lose you at the same time . I know mausumi will never accept our relationship .No women can share her love with another woman as I can't share you with mousumi now"
Rishabh's brow furrowed, and he pulled his hand away, a flicker of pain crossing his features. "I love you, Reba. I've tried to fight these feelings, but I can't. I don't want to lose you too."
Reba's heart ached at his words, and she reached out to take his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I love you too, Rik . But we can't let this consume us. Moushumi deserves the truth…. and had you told the truth to her , and I...I need to find a way to honor Abani's memory."
Rishabh nodded, his jaw clenched with the weight of his emotions. "I understand. I'll speak to Moushumi, but I won't give up on us, Reba. I can't."
Reba felt a tear slip down her cheek, and she brushed it away quickly. "I don't know what the future holds for us, Rik. All I know is that I'm torn between two worlds, and I need to find a way to reconcile them."
The two sat in silence for a moment, the air thick with now spoken desires and the echoes of a past that could never be reclaimed. Reba knew that she had to make a choice, one that would irrevocably change the course of her life.
As if sensing her inner turmoil, Rishabh reached out and pulled her into a gentle embrace. Reba melted her into his arms, the familiar scent of his cologne enveloping her, and for a fleeting moment, she allowed herself to be lost in his warmth, the weight of her responsibilities momentarily lifted.
But the moment passed, and Reba pulled away, her eyes filled with a newfound resolve. "I need some time, RiK. Time to heal, and to figure out what I want now . I am confused. Can you give me that much time ?"
Rishabh nodded, his expression solemn. "Of course, Reba. I'll wait for you, for as long as it takes."
With that, he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead and turned to leave, the weight of their spoken out promises hanging in the air. Reba watched him go, her heart torn between the love she felt for Rik and the loyalty she owed to her late husband.
As she settled into the bed, Reba's gaze returned to Abani's photograph, and she whispered a silent prayer, asking for the strength to navigate the treacherous path that lay before her. She knew that the road ahead would be filled with difficult choices, but she was determined to find a way to honor her past while embracing her future, even if it meant letting go of the one thing that had brought her solace in the darkest of times.
