Palak was crying tears of joy..... as was every Indian. Years of hard work had finally bore fruit! Their space team had succeeded in crossing the Main Asteroid Belt, and send a rover on Uranus!

Palak was overwhelmed with a flood of emotions. She could distinctly remember the looming figure of her father. If it hadn't been for him, his ardent patriarchal beliefs, and her mother's silent acceptance, then the fire of ambition would have never been born and nurtured in her heart.

"Girls shouldn't have any dreams. Don't even think of flying when you have no wings!"

A 10-year-old Palak had been petrified by her father's words when she told him that she wanted to be a space scientist. She had happily brought home a form she had been given in school, about a summer camp for children interested in astronomy. As her father left the room, she kept staring with tear-laden eyes at the torn pieces of the form, lying on the floor.

From then on Palak had kindled her ambition in herself. It had taken years of struggling, as she prepared herself for her dream in the secrecy of the night.

"....and what made you proceed with the plan with such grit?"

Palak was suddenly brought out of her trance by the questioning reporter. She smiled and said,

"We are all born with wings. But unless we take the leap down, we never realize how far we can fly...."
