The Scar

"You never know when you are encircled by an arising danger. It may occur anywhere and by anyone. Sometimes the person you know may not be what you assume as. They may be far from your reach and you don't even know. You may feel safe in their arms who are conspiring against you."  

"It's 6am and the alarm started awakening my senses that had been drifting to deep sleep last night. It's been two long years, that I have been constantly fighting against my odds and here I am unturned and unaltered. I met Jan again. It was quite a surprise to me. But yes there's no use to hold back the grudges that were never meant to be. I am glad that I have moved out of this toxic relationship. I hope my life would lead to a better path and someday all the bitter memories would go away like the Scar that has been within my heart for years. What could be the best gift to me this Christmas Eve? Then giving myself a free hand, independent life." Sanem writes in her diary. And then she closes it leaving a smiley on it. 

Two years ago

" Hey babe, don't you mind going out and exploring yourself in this new city?" Jan asks. "It's okay Jan. You first finish your meeting then we can go out together." Sanem replied solemnly. " Oh common dear, I can't guarantee you how long this meeting will go on. Why would you wait for me?" Jan asks Sanem. " I don't even know anyone over here. I think it's not a good idea. I'd rather wait for your meeting to end." Sanem reverts sadly. She hasn't yet finished her sentence when Jan cuts in between. " Oh common babe, please do what I say. It's for your own good. Trust me. If you go out and enjoy it, I'll feel good and happy about it. Plus there's a great surprise coming tonight." 

It appeared to her like he wanted to push her away from him. Sanem thought it would be right if no more words were spoken there wouldn't be any conflict proceeding. She agreed to his consent and explored the city with a guide. Throughout the visit to the city, one thing that kept on arriving in her mind. " Do I deserve this? Why does he behave so Ill to me?" All she could do was wait till the evening. "Today's our 5th anniversary and he is still stuck in his meeting." She thought as she cut the phone for the fifth time. 

Getting back to the Inn at 6 pm, Sanem walks straight to the room. Closing herself in the bathroom, she sinks into the bathtub to relax herself from the disturbing thoughts. " I know all I was thinking throughout the day was all bullshit. I hope I really get over this as soon as I get ready. Coming out of the washroom Sanem gets surprised by seeing a beautiful dress. An elegant gown of red colour. And a note on top of it. "A beautiful dress for a beautiful soul. Be down by 8pm." A smile played on her lips as she read the note. " Oh my God, what the heck was I thinking? I am so stupid." Sanem says to herself. 

And she gets ready wearing such an elegant dress. By 8, Sanem comes down and finds Jan waiting for her near the hallway. He was looking so handsome that no woman could ever turn her face away from him.. but his eyes were fixed on Sanem with a fake smile."How has your day been my love?" Jan asked, pretending to be curious. "Oh it was not so good as you were not beside me dear. " I thought you must have forgotten our anniversary love." She says looking at his mesmerising eyes. Jan smiles and yes he was looking so handsome that anybody could fall at his charming face. 

" How could I??" He replied. Jan reserved a table for them. He booked a cabin and the ambience was absolutely romantic. A beautiful slow song was playing in the background. "Dear, this is so beautiful. I love this place." Sanem says. Jan smiles at her and gives her a large bouquet of red roses. " Here baby, these are for you." He smiles. The flowers were delightful which made her feel special. "Aww Jan, these flowers are amazing. Thank you." Sanem says in excitement. Jan smiles at her. 

Everything was so perfect and beautiful. It was quite like a fairytale. " I can't believe all this is happening after a long five years. Thank You So much Jan. You have made my day." Sanem says with happiness that was clearly seen in her face. " So where's my gift?" She asks in over excitement. "There's a surprise waiting for us in the room dear. I am sure you will like it." Jan reverts with a smirk. " Oh really that's awesome." Sanem couldn't help but laugh with the extreme happiness that she was endeavouring right now. " But before that shall we finish our dinner first?" Jan asks. " Yes please." Sanem replies, smiling at him. 

The next thirty minutes passed in silence. Only clattering of plates could be heard. The food was of all sanem's favourite which again was a surprise to her. "The food is tasty. I am so full now." Sanem says and laughs at her own words. Jan too smiles at her and looks away to some other side. All the while Sanem was surely happy but something was not right. She felt it from the beginning. Jan was present with her but was often lost in his own thoughts and was extremely serious as he must have been thinking about something. But Sanem felt there was something beyond this set up. She felt that all he was doing was for the sake of something. But what that something was she was unaware of. 

He wasn't happy at all. All he could do was wait for the time to arrive and to tell her the truth. After a lovely dinner, Jan asks Sanem "So what would you like to do now?? Shall we stay here or shall we go back to the room?" Sanem thought for a while and replied "shall we dance to this music?" A beautiful romantic music was playing. There were a few couples who were dancing around at the spot. Jan was not willing to but since Sanem had a wish to dance with Jan so he agreed to her proposal. And gradually they moved their steps along with the best of the music. A different mood filled up their mind. 

" Sanem, I want to ask you something. Can I?" Jan whispers. " Hmm hm" she replies, giving him a green signal. " If I say that I have made a mistake will you forgive me?" Jan asks, raising his eyebrows forming a temple in his forehead. Sanem looks at him suspiciously. But says nothing. After a while she asks  him " what mistake Jan? " Sanem was curious and shaken as well. " I hope my scariest dream will not come true." She says in her mind. Clearing his throat, Jan says " let's go back to the room and shall discuss it." "About what?" Sanem asks irkly. 

Jan didn't know what to say. So he simply asked her again " shall we go back to the room?" Getting offended and ashamed, Sanem replies angrily. "Okay let's go back." And generously they walk towards the lift. There was a pin drop silence between them. But Sanem could guess something major is wrong but she couldn't trace out the problem. Getting back into the room, Sanem asks him " we are in the room now. Tell me what you wanted to talk about?" Jan at first sits on the couch without looking at her. Then gets up again and rubs his mouth and starts walking in the room. He wanted to say something but couldn't say as something was clearly bothering him. 

" What happened Jan? Will you tell me what it is?" Sanem asks, frustrated. Just then the doorbell rings and Jan hurries to open the door. A very known person enters and says " hi Sanem. How are you?" Sanem was extremely surprised to see that person. "Juliana??" Sanem asks. " Yeah my sister. There's a truth that we have got to tell you." Juliana says. " Truth?? We??Jan, what is she talking about??" Sanem asks Jan, all confused. "Well Sanem I was waiting for this time the whole evening. There is something you need to know." Jan says and stares at her. 

" What is it??" She asks firmly, glaring at Jan. "But my sweety, you have to be calm and.." Jan didn't finish his work when Sanem who could no longer bear the secret fact that was going on. "Could you please come to the point?" Sanem says angrily. "Juliana and I love each other and we want to stay together from now on." Jan says bluntly. Sanem couldn't believe in her ears. She couldn't understand what was going on. "What?" She asks, crying out. "Yes Sanem, the truth is that we love each other and you need to know it." Juliana says. 

Sanem could now understand that all the things he did before was a lie. He wanted her to be the victim of his lie and so that he could get away easily. " Why have you wasted your time this whole evening? You could have said to me straight away. What were all those for??" Sanem asked Jan with teary eyes. " I just wanted your day to be special and ." Sanem cuts his words and replies to him " and what made you think that? All these looks so stupid Jan. Why do you have to embarrass me like this??" Sanem breaks down. 

Jan couldn't say anything more. He stood there silent and watched her crying like a child. Then he decided to leave with Juliana by tossing a file of papers on the tea table. "Goodbye Sanem. I know that I have hurt you. But please try to understand my point of view and sign the papers. You deserve better." And he leaves. Sanem sat on the floor heart broken and cried out loudly. Next day, she saw the papers. Of Course they were divorce papers. She signed them and sent the papers to Jan's office. Sanem could not believe that Jan and her cousin Juliana could ever do like this to her. But that's the fact. Jan ditched her and continued playing games behind her back. 

 They have not seen each other ever again until one fine day Sanem happened to meet him in a park in another city.. "Hey Sanem" Jan calls out. Instead of turning away Sanem confronted him with a smile. "Hello Jan. How are you??" She asked with a warm smile. " Honestly my life's been a mess since I have left you. Juliana broke up with me a year later. And my business is all ruined. I guess I have learnt a lesson from hurting you. Can we really make a change for us?" Jan asks. " You were right Jan. I deserve better. I deserve me " she smiled and walked away from him without turning back.
