People go to any length to show off their purchasing power so as to gain supremacy over others. This is a narcissistic personality may be. They enjoy splurging money and even feel justified for the same. Sumit was so happy and floating on cloud nine. Why not! He had bagged a very good job offer and had to move to a city of his choice. Before embarking on his journey to join the new job. He had to purchase few shirts and trousers to revamp his trousseau. He chose to buy them at a well known textile Show room near his house. The Show room had some exquisite collection and had offers that were so exciting. So, on a lazy Sunday afternoon he reached the Show room and asked for a display of his required items He waited for sometime. But, the Sales person was so engaged by a middle aged lady who appeared to be rich. She kept on asking to show her Sarees that were exquisite.

She started to try out every Saree shown to her by wrapping it around her shoulder. She used to go near the display mirror and ask the opinion of another lady of the same age who had accompanied her on this Shopping Spree(!!).She started picking up every Saree that attracted her attention, she checked the price of the Saree and used to reject it saying she wanted an even more expensive one that was up to her Status. Sumit reminded the Sales person to show him some shirts so that he could select among them and complete the deal. The Sales person very politely asked him to wait for some more time so that other Sales person's too would come back as it was lunch break. Sumit sat on a chair and was observing what the elderly lady was doing.

After checking many Sarees, their designs and colors the lady was not at all happy with the price No no she was not bothered the prices were moderate, in fact she insisted on the choice of Sarees that were the costliest in the Showroom. Sumit understood the Sales person was a bit irritated with what had been happening for quite sometime. But did he have any option? Yes, of course (he got a bright idea). He understood the matter clearly. The lady was more bothered about the price tags rather than the quality or design of the Saree (recall the scene in the movie 3 idiots). She was concerned about what people would say if the price tag was less etc. So, what he did next is so funny but interesting. Sumit was in a hurry as he had already been waiting for his turn in the showroom. The sales person requested for little more time. By now Sumit was curious enough to know what further.

The Shopkeeper says "Madam, the costliest Sarees that you are interested to buy are on the other side of the counter. You please take your seat there, I'll send come in few minutes to attend to you. This gentleman has been waiting since long". The lady said okay and moved to the other side of the counter that was only an extension of the same row. The Salesperson silently picks up Sarees from beneath the bundle of Sarees the lady had already asked for display and remember she had rejected them all. He very cleverly described it as a rare piece of weaving, he even referred how many movie stars come to buy Sarees from that particular Showroom and specially from that particular counter etc. The lady was thrilled to hear all that. She hurriedly asked him to pack the Saree and paid an amount of 15,00O for a Saree that costed 10,000 rupees only.

Anyway her concern was the price tag you see, she was not bothered about anything else. Very happily she walked out of the Showroom thrilled and excited beyond words. Sumit was wondering how people can be so silly . He made his purchases and went back home with a smile and felt sorry for the lady who was cheated because of obsession for price tags You might be wondering why Sumit kept quiet when the Salesman was cheating the lady with regards the price of the Saree, Sumit understood the lady would anyway be happy with what she would have bought at high price, the Salesperson would get some reward for selling the Saree for a better price. So, everything was okay in love and war .
