"Dadu switch on the TV..hurry up.Chachu is live. You won't believe he is nominated for Academy Awards."Nancy yelled as she took the remote and switched on the television.

Mr.Iyer shifted his eyes from newspaper to TV set.

"And this year the prestigious award goes to an expectional duo who has made us all fall in love with their melodies.Presenting the best music award to Malini and Iyer."the crowd applauded as the host announced the names.

Nancy jumped with joy and shouted,'Oh God!This is beyond our thoughts.Chachu has made us proud, the whole family proud.Infact the whole nation proud as they are the first Indians to win this award."She started dancing and ran outside shouting.

Mr.Iyer watched his son holding trophy with teary eyes.

"I dedicate this award to my father and my soulmate Malini. He introduced me to the world of music and she made me realized the power of music. It was during my early years of struggle when my music was not getting any recognition.Malini was my neighbour and used to hear my music.Once she improved my tune which I was unable to compose. She taught me the real essence of music which is beyond rules and regulations of music. She introduced me to the real world of music and in this journey our souls synchronized. But Indian society doesn't allow transgenders to love and have a relationship.Transgenders are judged and are outcasted from the society. They are trained in a typical kind of singing and dancing. But Malini had a strong interest in music and chose to find her own ways. But society never gave her a chance to show her talent.Music has that power to connect the people from their spirits but her gender refrained her from expressing her capabilities.

Malini was not accepted by my parents and even I failed to explain that it's not our body or heart that binds us. It's the power of music that has connected our souls. We had to leave our city, our country. Is'nt it strange that an Indian song is chosen as the best music for an international award?

Actually that's the magic of music that crosses all boundaries of nations and languages and touches the soul. I wish my music could change the mindset of our society."He hugged his partner and walked away with the trophy.

Mr.Iyer switched off the television with teary eyes, happy but still not able to accept a transgender as member of his family.

Sometimes the prejudices and norms of the society become one of the greatest hindrance in uniting hearts.
