The Last Panipuri

The Last Panipuri

The was blushing during dawn. The birds were singing prayers to god. The sky was grey with pink clouds when dad made us wake up. He asked us to follow him to the veranda where a panipuri-walla was standing with his stall. We were very confused and hence gave mother weird looks. She looked fine with it.

So we thought about what might be wrong with panipuri. We started eating. One of one. Sour first, then spicy, and then sweet.

"How is it?" Dad asked.

"Good!" Babita replied and stuffed her mouth with another panipuri.

"Yeah!" I mouthed.

"Great then. Enjoy! This is the last time you're having it." Dad told.

We couldn't believe our ears. What did we hear? Last time?

"From now on, you'll live a wrestler's life." He added.

We stuffed another panipuri but it had no taste. We had another but that too felt tasteless.

After that incident, I never had panipuri until the day I won my gold medal at Commonwealth. And trust me, it felt tasteless at that time too.
