The isms and Common Sense

A little child was crying. Consumerism came to him and asked "Why are you crying child?" The child replied "an ant bit me in my toe."

"Ah! Nothing to worry, I have an ant spray that can kill the ant" said Consumerism.

"I can't take it because Moralism told me that I should not hurt other creatures" replied the child.

"I have a repellent that has a fragrance that repels ants. If you work for me for an hour, I will give it to you" said Consumerism.

The child happily agreed to work and brought home the fragrant repellent. As soon as he placed it at the door the ant turned away and walked far off.

Minutes later, the child was crying again. Common sense came to him and enquired "Why are you crying child?"

"I missed my play with my friends today, because I went to work for Consumerism to get this repellent" said the child.

"Oh! An ant bite hurts just for a minute. Why didn't  you just calm down for a minute and let the pain ease and then gone to play? " asked Common Sense.

"Egoism had told me that humans are the most supreme species on the planet. How could I have just let it be, when a creature as tiny as an ant hurts me?" scorned the child.

Common Sense smiled and walked past.

The fragrance faded away the next day and the ant started walking back towards the child. The child decided to get another repellent from Consumerism, and went up to work.

The child returned empty handed and began crying again. Common Sense came by and asked "oh Child what is the matter now?"

"I did not get work today because Liberalism had arrested Consumerism on charges of child labour" sobbed the child.

"Is that not good for you, now you can go to play and the ant is just walking past, not bitten you today?" asked Common Sense.

"Imperialism had told me that the area inside my door belongs to me. How can I just let this ant enter my territory?" said the child in contempt.

Common Sense smiled, and walked past.

The child then got up and killed the ant.

The next day Common Sense saw the child crying and enquired "Now the ant is dead, nobody to call you to work. You are now free to play. Why are you crying?"

"Philosophy told me that one must have a purpose in life and that a life without a purpose is not worth living. With the ant dead, I have no purpose. I am now just like any other ordinary child, who plays, grows up and dies one day. What a purposeless life I am left with" wept the child.

Common Sense smiled and walked past.

"Wait!" the child grabbed the hand of Common Sense. "Tell me how to get out of my problems" pleaded the child.

"You indeed are just like any other child. An ordinary child. Just admit it. Go to play, have fun" replied Common Sense calmly.

"What if another ant bites me?"

"I told you already what to do"
