The Divine Song:Our National Anthem

Our national anthem written by Gurudev, Rabindranath Tagore is a divine song. Written in Bengali, many of us don't know its meaning but whenever it is heard we stand still and sing along. The song itself instills in us a sense of patriotism and makes us stand up and show respect to it.

Today I would like to tell a story about patriotism I witnessed.

I was in a cinema hall when the national anthem was being played. Everyone stood up to show respect. In the front, I could spot an old man who was an amputee. Just before the anthem was played, he asked two men to help him up. The men were shocked but decided to abide by what he said. They helped the man up and held him for the entire duration of the anthem.

Later I asked him what made him do that, he replied by saying, "Beta, yeh rashtrageet hai. Ise samman dena hamara kartavya hai."

The incident helped me understand the bond between the nation and its people.

I would like to my respects to the old man.
